Re: Current Edinburgh Students Chat ThreadMaybe - I think it's probably that people who have ipads/iphones are into apps whereas people who have Androids might be less interested in that sort of thing. I have the TSR app on my phone but it isn't that useful as a mod because I normally do a lot of moving around/dealing with reports/giving warnings etc which I can't do on the app. Also a lot of my replies are often "advice giving" which is just too much of a pain to write on my phone as they're long posts.(Original post by Emmie3303)
That's interesting. Maybe people just favour the ipad/iphone. -
Re: Current Edinburgh Students Chat ThreadThat's a good point. To be honest I know very little about apps and the various devices since I don't have an up to date phone or a tablet(Original post by oxymoronic)

. I've had the same mobile since 2007! I suppose it would be easier to write long replies via the app on a tablet but it would be awful having to do it on a tiny phone screen.

Well that was never not going to happen.
Have you ever got a grade which was below a first?
Well done! Which PhD offer have you taken up?
I might have my first non-A grade this year; I either have a 68 or a 74 in one of my courses, so we'll see...not one that counts for anything, though.
I've decided to go to Glasgow next year.
The research there most closely fits my interests.

Well of course...
Thanks

Re: Current Edinburgh Students Chat ThreadTo start with, I did direct entry, so I started at year 2. I also took extra courses each semester (in second year, I did 140 credits, in third and fourth year, I did 160 credits) so I'm actually only 20 credits short of a master's degree anyway. All of the unis I applied to for my PhD decided I was more than qualified to start with my background, and if I had any deficiencies in knowledge, that I'd be more than capable to pick up the necessary info on my own.(Original post by Carl Sagan)

Re: Current Edinburgh Students Chat ThreadIt's not that impressive, really.(Original post by Carl Sagan)

Re: Current Edinburgh Students Chat ThreadScientists can do PhD's with just undergraduate degrees - it's more impressive that Rainfaery was given full funding as an international student - whereas a candidate like her shouldn't have any difficulty getting onto PhD programmes. -
Re: The Edinburgh FAQ and 'Ask a Student' threadAny time soon.(Original post by Kiss)
Anyone know roughly when I'll get my 1st year English Lit and British History results?
This time last year I already had my results, gah. -
Re: Current Edinburgh Students Chat Thread
I was wondering if anyone could tell me anything about the women's rowing at Edinburgh uni? Like how much training a week, what the coaching is like, generally if it's a nice place to row etc etc... Looking up results is useful but doesn't give you a good sense of the actual place... Thanks so much to anyone who can help

Re: International Student Can't return in August Resit - What do I do??I doubt it. Really a question best put to your DoS/teaching office.(Original post by msianlawya)
I am international student in the law school and I need to resit in August..
I can't afford to go back for 2 weeks (and other reasons too)
Can I take my exams in my home country? -
Re: Current Edinburgh Students Chat Thread
I missed one of my exams this year (got the wrong date) and got my results a few days ago, unsuprisingly I failed it. I got 28 overall, exam was worth 60% and coursework 40%. I think I got near enough 70% in the coursework section. Could anyone work out what mark I'll need to pass the resit. Not that I doubt I'll be able to. It was for one of my better subjects and managed to get 2.1's in the other two. Thanks.

Re: Current Edinburgh Students Chat ThreadWith 28% overall, and 0% from the exam, you got 70% in your coursework. You need 40% to pass, so that's another 12%. Or, to put it another way, 20% in the exam.(Original post by Mariaxxx)

Re: Current Edinburgh Students Chat ThreadUnless the course requires all components passed to pass, in which case 40% is still required in the exam.(Original post by NeoNerd)

Re: Current Edinburgh Students Chat Thread
Does anyone know if anywhere local will be streaming graduation ceremonies on large screens this year? I've heard rumours about Teviot and Doctors doing it, but nothing confirmed - I've got a couple of family members that I didn't manage to get extra tickets for, so I'm just wondering what to do with them.

Re: Current Edinburgh Students Chat ThreadSo would it be possible to do more than 120 credit a year and get both undergrad & postgrads degrees within four years ?(Original post by Rainfaery)
