I got a "B" overall in 2008 for my maths gcse higher modular paper, however in as level i am struggling. At the moment I dont have a teacher and am self teaching the as course myself via text books. What text book would you recommend for self teaching m1/ mechanics 1 myself?

It is dull and grey but this is the one that is for your specification. Infact, I use this myself. Don't look at dull and boring, look at: does it work for you.

By dull and grey, presumably you mean there aren't lots of colourful pretty pictures. I doubt colour affects learning that much.

On a positive note it has:

* Clear explanations
* Worked examples
* TONNES of questions for practice and a Solution Bank book available providing solutions to all of these
* A mock paper at the back
