Young women have higher number of sexual partners than male equivalent
Young women are more promiscuous than men, according to a survey that claims the average 21-year-old has had nine sexual partners compared with seven for men.
The poll of 2,000 by the magazine More also found that one in four young women has slept with more than 10 people, compared with one in five men who had done the same.
In addition, half of those questioned admitted they had been unfaithful, whereas only a quarter said they had been cheated on by a boyfriend.
It comes just a week after an academic study branded Britain one of the casual sex capitals of the Western world, with residents having more one-night stands and more liberal attitudes than those in Australia, France, the Netherlands, Italy and the US.
Lisa Smosarski, the editor of More, said: "Our results show that after decades of lying back and thinking of England, today's twenty-something women are taking control of their sex lives and getting what they want in bed."
The magazine's survey found that few young women today hold to traditional views on sexual morality.
Just 1 per cent of young women said they would want to get married before having sex, with the majority losing their virginity at 16.
More than half said they were not in love with their first partner, and only one in three believe it is important to be in love with someone before going to bed with them.
Seven out of 10 said they had had a one-night stand, with a fifth admitting to having had more than five casual encounters.
In addition, 60 per cent said they would be prepared to do a "kiss-and-tell", and would sell their account of a one-night-stand with a famous person for £20,000.
Four out of 10 said they would marry for money or sleep with their boss if it meant they would get promoted, while a quarter would have an affair with a married man.
The survey also found young women are taking "huge risks" with their health, with 38 per cent not using a condom with a new partner and 16 per cent having contracted a sexually transmitted disease.
However the respondents still claimed they are not having as much sex as they would like, with 13 per cent claiming their love life is "disappointing" and a further 10 per cent calling it "non-existent".
According to the survey, the average young woman has sex three times a week but would prefer to do it five times.
This sort of greatly contradicts what many would have you believe, especially in TSR, that it is the men who have more sex partners, more casual sex and are less faithful. I remember recent statistics where apparently the average number of sexual partners for a female was 6 and 10 for the men. That twice as much men would cheat as women.
But obviously these were false. Just goes to show that the Pareto principle works well within the context of sexual relationships. 20% of men get 80% of the girls, hence why, on average, girls have had more sexual partners and one-night stands than their male equivalent. Some of the guys in the 20% category must be racking up really high numbers ...
Now obviously I'm not here to judge since I am no traditionalist. I won't ever use the word 'slut' to describe a woman no matter how many sexual partners she has. But after reading the latest "how many sexual partners have you had" thread, girls who had done over around 4 (less than half the average!) were getting branded 'sluts' or said they felt 'slutty'. So, according to some, are most of the female population 'sluts'?

For stats like a one night stand, you do realise that for every woman who has had a one night stand with someone she doesn't know, there is exactly the same number of guys? (not counting same sex encounters) Because it takes a male And a female to have sex?

Shock horror women like sex too! snd be just as durty as men! It's 'more magazine' I sometimes think these surveys are sexed up to an extent anyway or questions phrased a certain way to get the result they want for an article . Or am I being cynical?.
Anyway that article makes me feel like I'm living in a islamic country, women aren't that different to men you know.

Maybe it's a social class thing, but I don't know anyone who had nine sexual partners by the age of 21. I would consider that a lot rather than an average.

Meh...
I see what you mean. But we're using the median here, not the mean. The average female has had X, and the average male has had Y. We're not using the female average or the male average.

The source hardly seems credible. The numbers seem really high. I don't know any girls of 21 who've slept with half that number. Does sexual partners apply only to full sex or does it count other stuff as well?

Surely, the overall average number for men and women would logically be exactly the same if one disregards age (since for every woman who sleeps with a man, there is a man sleeping with a women) - disrgarding homosexual couples.
But, since on the whole, women tend to date older men then you might expect the average number for women at a given cut off point to be higher than men.
Wouldn't it have been fairer to compare stats for 21year old women with 23 or 24 year old men?
Surely all that this survey proves is that women are having more sex at a younger age...

Does it really matter? I mean, really? I never get the point of collating statistics on this kind of topic - who honestly needs to know how many people everyone has slept with??

haha clearly its not the most reliable survey but saying that, i'm 17 and one of my best mates has slept with 6 people in the year and a half since she lost he virginity, my cousin is to my knowledge above 10 and only just 17 and i know a few in the year below who are well above that, yet many i know are also still virgins. You can't really generalise
the only thing that annoys me about this kinda thing is that when a guy sleeps with loads of girls its generally ok, however when i girl sleeps with probabl less guys she is branded a slag
