I was wondering about that too. So if anyone knows, please answer! I was looking through some old threads though and I don't think you find out till you actually get there

I think you get a letter out about where you're staying. But you might just find out on the day. In terms of who you're living with, you find out as they move in.

Don't sound so worried, it works out fine for a couple of thousand people every year.

I'm moving into QM aswell, I was a bit surprised when it didn't specify what block/flat but then I guess it doesn't really matter till we get there!

I've had my unconditional since about March and I applied then, got the offer of accommodation in April (I'm pretty sure it was the end of April because it was payday and I was on holiday).

I think I must have got mine at the same time as you then! I know I shouldn't worry because it's the same for lots of people every year but just...Ahh! I like to know what's happening and I'm a worrier Still! Early days yet.

Haha, I know what you mean I'm really impatient when it comes to this kind of thing, I was starting to get annoyed at how little i've heard from SAAS but that letter came through today so I'm content knowing it's all sorted now. Wonder if the uni will be sending any kind of information packs out to us next month after all the school results are out and everyone's place is final.

I also got the offer today - it's murano. However, as a matter of fact, i applied qm. Kinda disappointed.

Btw, what does it mean by "2 bed flat"?

Few moments, I received a similar letter. I gave them a ring and spoke to a lovely lady who told me It's the Murano large flats.

Are you already there or starting this commencing September?

I was wondering, how does the whole sharing bathrooms/kitchen thing work at Murano Large Flats? Because it can't be so that 12 people have to share one bathroom, right? And also, would I seriously miss out on a lot as a fresher if I didn't live in the university's accommodation, because I really don't look forward to living in a "hostel" (as the uni calls it) for a year, but I'm afraid that if I go for private accommodation I'll be secluded from other freshers and will meet a lot less new people.

(also, I'm kind of surprised that I couldn't get anything other than my last choice since I applied almost right away when the applications opened...... really bad luck, i guess.)

I visited Murano few days ago and they told me that large flats have more bathrooms and kitchens than the small ones. And I do think too that the "hostel" is the best choice for the first year to meet new people, Murano being at the top of them.

I'm going into Second Year, so I was in Murano last year.

Murano was my last choice but I loved it. It's not fancy, in fact it's very basic and the room sizes vary but I enjoyed a large flat because there was always someone to chat to and Freshers was a hoot!
It's a bit of chance if you end up living with people you get on with but as it's a long road of like 2000 first years, you're bound to make friends with people in your block or in Murano if you don't like your flatmates.

We had 10 people, with four showers and two toilets and one kitchen [although we had a raw deal because our flat wasn't as nice as others - luck of the draw]

You wouldn't miss out too much, it depends what sort of experience you want. I loved it because it's great for meeting people and especially during first term when you're still finding your feet and have the stamina to go out every night. By the end of the year I was ready for a bit more peace, but by that point I had friends in every block in Murano so I'll miss having everyone close by.

If you prefer your home comforts and aren't prepared to slum it, it's probably not for you. I didn't mind, I was happy to put luxuries aside because I felt it was "the place to be" as a Freshers. Others agree, others are so glad they were in other accommodation.

I encouraged my friend who's coming up this year as a Fresher to go for Murano Large, as overall I really enjoyed my experience. At it's worst, you will find friends elsewhere and can put up living with certain people because if you don't want to see them, you can just eat and sleep in your flat and spend your free time elsewhere.
I had friends who didn't like their flatmates but made block mates, friends in Murano or just from societies, lectures &c.
At it's best, it's a hub of activity because everyone is really up for it and all wide-eyed slightly terrified Freshers too. It's one of those ones where I was glad to be in the centre of it all whilst I settled in; I'm happy to be having my own flat this year but would defs recommend it for the social life if nothing else.

PS Any other questions, I'll try to answer, I know I was brimming with them this time last year. I know a little about the other accommodation, but mostly about Murano
