Hey guys i'm applying to study primary education starting next year (havent sent away my ucas application yet) but in the process of doing so. Glasgow will be my first choice but i dont quite meet the requirements so will be given a conditional offer if anything. I'm from scotland but live roughly 4 hours from the uni so would be guaranteed accomidation but i'm worried after reading through all these previous posts At the open day i visited QM and Murano Street accomidation and loved both of them so would be happy with either but i'm terrified about the whole accomidation process, could someone tell me how it works like when you apply etc/ what chance you have of getting a 1st or 2nd choice if you dont have an unconditional? I'm a party and people person so would HATE to be in a quiet building. Help please
If you're Scottish you'll probably get 1st or 2nd choice as you get exam results before English lot.

Hi, when I was applying for accom. we just got sent an email from the Uni telling us when to apply etc. It's a pretty straight-forward process. If you're a party/people person I'd definitely recommend putting Murano as first and second choices (there's 2 options for murano cause there's 2 sizes of flat). The chances are you'll be put there as it's the biggest accommodation at Uni. I was in Cairncross for first year and had the most boring time first semester and really wish I'd transferred to Murano now!
When do we usually apply for accomondation? And will school assist us or we had better find a house by ourselves?
    thx

I'm a fresher who chose to stay with unite at kelvin court because they were much nicer, cheaper (at the time I booked) and I wasn't worried about needing to make friends in halls. You're going to meet heaps of people, through your course, societies and general mingle and the chances of becoming best mates with your flat mates are slim private sector or not.

Not that I don't think I will make friends with my flat mates I'm just not worried about if they're freshers, in fact if they're not then better, I'll get some advice!

What are the chances of getting a place in accommodation if you live within commuting distance to Glasgow uni? And do you stand a better chance if you have an unconditional or apply early? Thanks

    Hello to everyone!
I'm coming to Glasgow this fall for my postgraduate studies -I hope I will manage to accept my offer because I am currently facing problems accessing Applicant Self Service-.
I would like to know some things for Kelvinhaugh Gate and Maclay Residences, so as to make a decision on which of the two I'm going to apply for accomodation. I don't know if any of you has any clue about what I'm going to ask, but if you do it would be of great help.
    So here I go!
1)The room in Maclay shown in flickr is the ensuite or the large ensuite?
2)The shower in Maclay is literally just one curtain and the shower floor is the actual floor of the bathroom?
3)The beds in Kelvinhaugh are those small ones that open and close? (I don't know how the're called, sorry!)
4)Are the rooms in Kelvinhaugh as shown in the photos, or they have just picked the best room to show us?!
5)Which room is bigger: the ensuite in Maclay, the large ensuite in Maclay or the ensuite in Kelvinhaugh? I'm having friends and family visiting me and I was hoping I could have them sleeping in my room on the floor. So I need my room to be big enough, just not the biggest choice -and most expensive!- in Maclays! (Is it allowed to have guests in the room? Please somenone say YES!)
Thanks in advance and hope to meet you all this fall!

I can't help you with the first few questions, sorry, but I do know that you are allowed to have guests! I think there's a maximum amount of nights they can stay (3, maybe?) but nobody really counts so it wouldn't matter if they were there for longer

Hi ! Silly question but I was wondering if students could stay only 3 months in students accommodations. Are we allowed to find a flat on our own once we get all settled in the city?
Also, do you suggest students should find an accommodation non-related to the university?
    Thanks! :h:

Usually you sign a contract from September to May/June but you'd be better off asking the uni, they might be able to accommodate that.

I love socialising, partying and the thought of catching a bus to morning lectures horrifies me. Although not a deal breaker, catering would be a plus. Bearing all that in mind, what's the recommended hall for someone like myself?

Don't go catering. The only catered hall is way out and mainly has vet students and isn't really all that social.

Go for Murano or Cairncross or Queen Margaret, all walking distance.

This might be a slight OT, but I didn't want to start another thread, so sorry about that.. I'll be visiting UoG's applicant's and since I'd love to stay for a few days, to get a look around the city,... I'm looking for a reasonably priced place to stay. Could you guys recommend anything? I've never been to Scotland, let alone Glasgow, so I'd be grateful for any advice. Thanks

Decent mix, mainly home students. Reflects the university's composition fairly well.

There's a youth hostel at Park Circus, some five minutes from the university.
