Nicolas Sarkozy is HOT.

....Policies?
:s-smilie:
I like his french accent ahahah!:france: :france: :france:
I rather like him, despite him being a bit right-wing. He seems to have taken a proactive stance over the credit crunch (and is being mocked as a 'socialist' in the French press). He seems like a good negotiator, having negotiated the peace settlement in South Ossetia and the release of FARC rebels in Colombia. I'm pretty sure he's led the way on climate change and promised a massive cut in emissions, though the exact statistic evades me. His election was largely fought on his opposition to the 35-hour week that has become standard in France - I think he's passed measures to increase working hours and thus make France's economy more productive. I can't dispute any of these things, and think he's been a pretty good President so far (though I'm not fantastically informed on French politics).

He ruined the integration of europa.

He is trying to pull the French armed forces out of the dark ages which can only be a good thing, personally I like him (alot more the old one eye anyway).
If he succeeds in improving France's comparative macroeconomic performance then I'd say he'd be a good president.

He's doing what Thatcher did 30 years ago to Britains economy, removing the socialist, bureaucracy and statism and hopefully the power that the trade unions wield.

He's a saint!
His wife has a great pair of policies.

On a serious note, the French élite, and that's about it.

Yes, and look how that's worked out for us!

Oh.

We have lower unemployment than France still, Thatchers policies have been eroded by 11 years of Labour and its desire for a return to Keynesian times.

We have lower unemployment than France still,

We work a lot more than France.

We have lower quality of life than France.

We have worse healthcare than France.

We have worse worker satisfaction than France.

We have collapsed unions, unlike France.

We have bigger social problems than France.

We have less healthy lifestyles than France.

We have stagnating real income, unlike France.

And here comes Mickey Mouse to change all that.

Tory Dan

Oh yeah, all that intense Keynesianism, like deregulating the financial sector to oblivion.
we had lower living standards than France before thatcher became PM. but living standards doesn't mean an economy is better. why is it that more regulated first world countries like france, germany and italy have done badly compared to less regulated ones?

and what do you mean by quality of life? whether the anglo-saxon model or the continental model is better is a moot point. While France has a higher rating in the UN Human Development Index, our rating is higher than Germany's or Italy's is. compared to other major EU economies, we aren't so worse off as we think.
The hell with Sarko.

I don't know how this can be a bad thing?

To address your points, yes we work more and I think British people have a better lifestyle, more holidays abroad, higher house and car ownership than the French. The French have just a bad social problems, if not worse as Britain has no seen large scale rioting for many years now due to racial and social problems.

Workers asserting their rights is always a good thing.

True - but that's a mark in a way of how there is some sort of protest culture in France, at the very least.

So bringing a country to a stand still, making it the laughing stock of Europe and kicking the **** of the nearest policeman every time there's a 'protest'. Hardly good things one would think.

Might as well have mocked him for smelling of garlic at the same time. Either way, it generally sounds like a case of pot and kettle.

I don't think that's the case at all.

We have collapsed unions, unlike France.

Excellent.

We have bigger social problems than France.

I'm sorry, but that's quite frankly laughable.

We have less healthy lifestyles than France.

Speak for yourself, fatty.
