hey guys,

was wondering if you could help me out a bit. i missed the deadline for the ERASMUS programme (wasnt that interested at the time because i thought i'd need a modern foreign language to be accepted).

anyways, for personal and career reasons i want to take a year out between my 2nd and 3rd year (3 yr course). My university doesnt offer a sandwich course and so i'd only be allowed to take the time off if I used it to either start my own business or gain relevant work experience (they wouldn't accept call centre work + travelling for example).

Firstly, has anybody ever taken time out like this before?

Basically, I want to take a year out, gain work experience for the most part of my year (preferably abroad) and then spend the remaining few weeks/months travelling before going into my final year.

Done some digging around into industrial placements but from people that i've spoken to, they're aimed at students on a sandwich course doing a placement year.

Any ideas that spring to mind?
