In a exam how would you structure each paragraph?
Would it be okay if in each paragraph i named a sociologist and used evidence a concept? would that be enough? How would i evaluate each paragraph? Would i say- In my opinion this study shows..........?

Thanks

You'd evaluate it by saying 'an opposing view is that of..who disagree because..' etc
I'd try and avoid using the first person narrative in any essay.

In January, my AS I'll probably do it so...

- State the point.
- Briefly explain and give evidence.
- Evaluate it.

Out of interest, what topic have you been studying for January?

Not looking forward to it.

It's quite interesting you get taught this at A level, because at university they tell us to use the first person at all times and not to use the passive.

Really? I thought it was deemed as being unacademic.

No, it suggest you are developing your own ideas as opposed to summarising those of others. To get a first class in an exam you have to come up with a degree of original hypothesis or approach, but at A level they don't care about this.

Also we are encouraged to outline things in introductions by saying "I will first talk about ... and then go on to talk about ...", while at A level they tell you not to do that.

Yeah don't think we could fit that into the essay-type questions we have with the limited amount of time we have. What i'm scared about, is that if you don't know or understand one of the 25 markers properly, that's it, you've failed!

But if you get full marks on them both without answering any of the shorter questions you get an A

The grade boundaries are quite low.

And it's extremely unlikely you won't understand one of the questions. I hadn't revised one of the 20 mark questions but got full marks- you know more than you think you do! Besides, you get an extract which is related to the essay questions which are also a great help. Don't panic

Does anyone know if its ok to answer the short answer questions in bullet points/very short sentances?

With the 1 hour time limit I've found that I have to do it that way in order to complete both of the essay questions.

I'm pretty worried that a question is going to come up that will stump me aswell. For the people doing the new spec, do you think its pretty much a given that demography will come up in some form?

My teacher used to mark AQA papers and he told us that he appreciated when people kept their answers short/snappy and that it's fine to use bullet points (he practically encouraged it).
