I'd say around 12 hours at the minimum. I've never gone below 10 myself.

I think from looking at sample timetables, my ab initio Italian with French was about 17 hours. I might have gotten a bit confused though, since that sounds like a lot!

I'm due to start studying languages at UCL in Spetember... How many hours a week contact time can I expect?

I do single subject French and I do about 10 hours a week :smile:

2 hours a week german at the language centre as a half unit (although because of my timetable I do 3 hours).
10 for post A-level French and Spanish.

Umm Discussion and Essay is two hours a week, you'll have a grammar seminar and a translation class both lasting an hour and a 'Modern German Literature' seminar lasting another hour and 'An Introduction to German Language and Literature up to 1740' class lasting another two hours. That's the 7 hours of compulsory courses for single honours, which amounts to 2 credits. Another 1 credit of German modules needs to be taken and then you have a further credit to do whatever you want with.
