Default Depression.

Has anyone here had to deal with depression? How low did you get? How low exactly does depression feel?

I think that i've been (clinically) depressed before... and have had times where i've fallen back into depression.. but, through great effort, have worked my way out of it... mostly through introspection and finding more activities to do.

I went through a.. 5 or 6 week period where i wasn't working, in education or seeing any friends.. just eating sleeping and computing... life seemed like a dream.. and it felt like something had broken in my mind.. that i'd never feel like i used to again.

Or maybe i was just being a troubled teen?

Anyone had depression? Stories? I'd like some info on how people managed to feel better about life again... because trying to think positive is so hard in that situation.

what helped me mostly was having the right friends around because when your interacting and having fun you think less of the issues that get you in to a depressed state.

i believe ideally you should address the underlying issues that depress you. In my case i found that extreamly hard so i employed a gloss-over-the-dirt attitude as i found it difficult to tackle those issues. i decided to just have fun with friends and in spare time spoil my self with computer games.

this only provides a temporary solution. but be warned that if this is the route you want to take don't distract yourself so much that you do not get any neccesary work done. From being an A* student at GCSE Level i hit rock bottom at A-levels and managed to pull out a BCD by last ditch efforts. actually i was expecting worst then that. Now i am having to attend really low ranked uni cos good unis generally require around 300 points or more.

i also advise that you consult a psychologist for further advice cos trust me the longer the depression lasts the worse the effect. take the example of depression given by one proffessor (forgot his name!); he says that if a person was to stretch his arms out holding a peice of paper he would feel nothing innitially but if he was to keep hold for longer (even hours) there will be a point where the strain would be too much for him to bare.

in my case i found my mind stunned at times such that in debates i would lose because i wouldn't be able to catch those fallacies in other peoples arguments. Even worse i would not be able to find the right words to express something in the right way. that loses you friends! cos they automatically start believing you are genuinly stupid even if you came up with a great joke; but because of the lack of emotions or right expressions (due to word loss) they don't see where the pun is.

in those situations i tried my best to simulate happiness. that really helps. once you do that you eventually (though only temporarely) feel as if you are happy.

i faced other problems such as slow reaction. my friends would cross main roads in safe time to avoid oncoming cars but i would remain untill i was convinced there werent any cars because at that time i wouldn't be confident with my judgement. that also hidered my driving. i eventually decided to stop taking lessions even though on a happy day my driving was inch perfect. oh hey sry if i wrote so much.
