Question WJEC Double Maths A* Grading

Hello!

I have read the article on the A-star grade on The Student Room, but I am still really confused! First of all, according to the grading section in the 2009 maths specification on the WJEC website, it still says grades A-E will be awarded. Shouldn't it say A*-E?

Anyway, my problem is that I am doing double maths and therefore, I am sitting the Maths A-Level all of this year (Year 12). However, in the Summer, apparently, I am only cashing in the AS-Level of Maths, and cashing in the rest (1 and a half) in Summer 2010. I assume therefore I would be able to get an A* grade in Further Maths, but what about in Maths?

I'm trying to not be that obsessed about it, but would it really matter if the top grade was just an A grade? Would it affect my chances of getting into a good university such as Oxford or Cambridge?

I hope you can help. Thanks .

Is there any particular reason to adding an A* grade on? If it lowers the standards of current grades then unis will have to alter their entrance requirements and everything will change hehe.

Is it just so that the grading system is the same between GCSE and A levels?

You should be able to get the A*s

But it won't affect Oxbridge chances anyway, they'll see it was certificated pre-A*.
