History Offers!?!
Welcome to the University of Durham forum: where prospective and current students can discuss everything from the differences between colleges to the nightlife, an abundance of Rahs to the Stockton campus.

Re: History Offers!?!Oh, did they tell you your app went to the history department first, and you got rejected without the english dept even seeing it?(Original post by super-emily)
Yeah, I go to a state school that isn't amazingly funded, but hey ho. My dad 'made enquiries' and rang up Durham, but they were really nice and open about it, so as much as I want to, I can't really hate them.
And as much as I hate to admit this, I wasn't expecting it. I thought I would at least get to the English Department (Joint Honours), but there we are.
You never know, I may reapply next year if I get enough points...

Jeeez they must have so many applicants if they're saying that 5 A*s and 5 As is "borderline". That's crazy. Do you go to private or state school? Because if they didn't make allowances for the fact that most of the candidates with all A*s were spoon-fed from 11 onwards then that's staggeringly unfair...

Re: History Offers!?!well that's what I'm assuming. My app went to History first, and that's who spoke to my dad about it, and I know that English is harsh but not that harsh, so....I think it's a pretty fair assumption, but you never know, I could be wrong. It's been known to happen(Original post by _Fleur_)

Re: History Offers!?!Well done(Original post by gallopingsnail)
Me too, mine is deferred.
Are you going to the open day?
Probably not, I'm making another university asking for 3A's my firm so I can't really make Durham my insurance (though I love it so!). Plus even if I was making it my firm I don't think I could quite deal with the 6 hour drive...
I'm sure others will be going though

Re: History Offers!?!fair enough, Im going because cambridge have asked for 90% in history which could be troublesome, so am looking to see whether durham is suitable before i make it the old insurance.(Original post by emilyb-)

Re: History Offers!?!Haha oh dear(Original post by gracey17)
yeeeahhh I'll come clean, that was a slightly hypocritical statement because I've been privately educated since eleven and have enjoyed the benefits of spoon fedness...
and It took Durham a bloody lifetime to reply to me.
Its now my firm need 3A's obviously.
got accepted into the butler college
