Yeah, I go to a state school that isn't amazingly funded, but hey ho. My dad 'made enquiries' and rang up Durham, but they were really nice and open about it, so as much as I want to, I can't really hate them.

And as much as I hate to admit this, I wasn't expecting it. I thought I would at least get to the English Department (Joint Honours), but there we are.

You never know, I may reapply next year if I get enough points...
Oh, did they tell you your app went to the history department first, and you got rejected without the english dept even seeing it?

 Jeeez they must have so many applicants if they're saying that 5 A*s and 5 As is "borderline". That's crazy. Do you go to private or state school? Because if they didn't make allowances for the fact that most of the candidates with all A*s were spoon-fed from 11 onwards then that's staggeringly unfair...
    :shifty:

I have an offer from Hatfield college for History, 3 A's (including History) - hope that's helpful for anyone who's waiting
    Me too, mine is deferred.
Are you going to the open day?

well that's what I'm assuming. My app went to History first, and that's who spoke to my dad about it, and I know that English is harsh but not that harsh, so....I think it's a pretty fair assumption, but you never know, I could be wrong. It's been known to happen :yep:

Well done Probably not, I'm making another university asking for 3A's my firm so I can't really make Durham my insurance (though I love it so!). Plus even if I was making it my firm I don't think I could quite deal with the 6 hour drive...
I'm sure others will be going though

fair enough, Im going because cambridge have asked for 90% in history which could be troublesome, so am looking to see whether durham is suitable before i make it the old insurance.

yeeeahhh I'll come clean, that was a slightly hypocritical statement because I've been privately educated since eleven and have enjoyed the benefits of spoon fedness... :shifty:
