Default Which dress would be better suited to a formal ball?

Well, reasonably formal; the dress code says black tie, but you know what students are like

I've found two dresses I really, really like, but they're completely different, and I wondered what you TSR-ers thought would be more appropriate?

I'm 4'9", a size six, smallish boobs, with a bigger bum, is that makes any difference to your opinion

What do you reckon? Thank you in advance

I'd say the second
Think it's a bit more formal (but you wouldn't look out of place if people didn't make too much effort), and I'm not really a fan of the first tbh.

I'd say the first (sorry to confuse things!)

It seems more 'ball-like' if that makes sense whilst the second is more of a cocktail / clubbing dress?! (Not that I have ever been to a cocktail party or gone out clubbing )

Anyway, I just prefer the first one, but I imagine you will get a different view from every different person...!

I'd say the first one, although I like both. Are you gonna be dancing at this thing? Because I think you'll end up a bit hot and uncomfortable in the second one.

The second dress is gorgeous, the first isn't very exciting, so I say the black one Also black is more formal

I am quite a fan of the black one, I just wondered if black was a bit dull? But you are right, AnatasiaJ, it is a more formal colour

I like the first one because it's not black :p Hating black at the minute Colours aren't any less formal. I think you could wear either to be perfectly honest.

I think the first one looks more girly/pretty pretty, the second one is a more more mature/womanly... SO maybe depends on what you look like?

The first looks a bit short (if it is really a formal ball) and the second one just looks as if you wanted to surprise your boyfriend. I wouldn't get either of them but that's just my opinion

I have been wearing it during winter.....so it hasn't made me sweat.

I have worn it to a new years eve party and i have worn it into town on a night out......but it was in expensive posh bars...not student bars. I think with the right shoes etc it would look great for a ball...especially if you find most students dontt make to much of an effort.

My last ball there were people with huge ball gowns on and then people with very casual dresses...so in the middle is good i would say!

I look a bit little girl-ified without any help from a dress (see profile picture) so perhaps the second would be a better option? Or would it look like I'd been ransacking my mum's wardrobe to play dressing up?

For a formal ball - 1st
But I much prefer the 2nd one generally, so think you should buy the second one and then make it more formal with your accessories. Also the second one would be acceptable in a club or whatever environment so is more flexible therefore better
Good luck with your choice.

I should have had a look for a profile pic first really shouldn't I

You look so petite!! I think you could pull either off huni, however, I know you said you're a size 6 but what's your figure like? For example if you thin all over I think the second might make you look stick like as it's straight and very fitted from top to bottom, whereas the first would give you more shape... Mind you, I'm saying it like this because I like to see a bit more shape but I don't know if you like the same thigs as me

I don't think I've ever had to worry about something being too short in my life (being a diddy little thing at 4'9&quot, but yeah, I get what you mean about it generally

Tis a tricky line to walk this whole student formal occasion thing... don't want to look too try-hard, don't want to look slovenly either.
