Re: Ask a Current UCL Student: The Official ThreadMost first year exams are either already over or finishing next week, as far as I know.(Original post by kokomichelle)
When June 7th (2013) is listed as the last day of the third term, does that mean that's when all classes will be over for sure, and that exams will happen in the weeks following? Or is that the date when all exams will be over by?
Thanks in advance!
My last exam's today and we finished lectures before Easter. -
Re: Ask a Current UCL Student: The Official ThreadOh, okay, thanks! So are these your year-ends exams?(Original post by Zuzuzu)

I'm just confused because the website says that the third term goes until June 8th (for this year), but does anything actually continue until then?
It just seemed strange to me that the standard move-out date for accommodation next year is in late June, so I thought there would be exams happening till mid-June.
Anyhow, hope your exam went well and thanks again!

Re: Ask a Current UCL Student: The Official ThreadThat's actually when all the exams finish, but the majority of the students' exams are over earlier. It's individual.(Original post by kokomichelle)

Re: Ask a Current UCL Student: The Official ThreadI received my accommodation application confirmation the other day, and I applied months ago. You should hear soon, though you won't know about what you've been given 'till after results.(Original post by lse2912)
hey everyone
was just wondering when i could hear back for accommodation?
and how are the en-suite single rooms in term of socialising and meeting new people
thanks
In terms of en-suite singles, I'm sure they're just as social as anywhere else. But as with any room, the house dictates how social it's likely to be. And of course it all depends on the people you're living with :P I have heard that en-suites are less social in the sense that you don't have to venture out of your room to go to the loo, hence missing out on some social interaction. But I doubt it makes much difference :P -
Re: Ask a Current UCL Student: The Official Thread
Hey, sorry if anybody's alread asked this, but how is the Chemistry department? Is it mainly focussed on organic chemistry, or is it an equal spread between I, O and P chemistry?
Also, what grades did you get for entry? If you did an EPQ was it helpful or just interveiw fodder?
Thanks in advance
(2013 prospective)

Re: Ask a Current UCL Student: The Official Thread
Hi

I'm contemplating applying to UCL, but I'm not sure about whether to bother or not, because I'm not sure about living in London. It's probably irrational, but it's quite scary as it will be my first time living away from home.
I'm from a really small city, and was just wondering how other people found it? Is London really as bad with regards to crime and stuff as the media make it out to be?
Thanks
edit: why the neg???

Re: Ask a Current UCL Student: The Official ThreadIt really depends on the area you'll live in. There are certain parts where crime rate is higher, but I don't think it's too bad anywhere.(Original post by pixxie)

I am a village girl and although I studied for two years at a high school in a city, London completely surpassed my expectations and I felt that Prague was actually just a rural hamlet... I'd say that the further you are from the centre, the less hectic it is. I used to live in the very centre of London, completely unhappy about this - loads of tourits, terrible traffick and no greenery. Some people are, contrarily, completely fine about this. -
Re: Ask a Current UCL Student: The Official ThreadIt's all down to personal preference. Personally I thrive on living in big cities and I dislike going back to my hometown because it's so small and boring in comparison.(Original post by pixxie)

The area immediately around UCL is usually fine, I've had no problems. You have to take the same precautions there at night that you would anywhere, like stay in well-lit areas, don't walk all by yourself if you're drunk, etc. As a fresher especially you will be going out in with your friends in small groups but even if you fancy a daytime wander most areas in central London are perfectly safe.
Obviously there will be some areas in London that are worse to be in, just as there is in any city. You just have to be sensible. Go to an open day and check it out. It could be you'd much prefer a campus based uni, like Warwick or somewhere. Personally I'd have been bored out of my mind being there but some people like the security and prefer smaller uni towns/cities. -
Maths Revision Materials on UCL Website?
Hi! I found this website while googling and it's really helpful. I tried searching for its source on UCL's Mathematics webpage but I couldn't get any Level 2 materials. Could anyone please direct me to the proper webpage? Thank you.

I think I probably will still go & have a look round then :P

Re: Ask a Current UCL Student: The Official ThreadAwesome! Glad to help and good luck.(Original post by Chemzoik)
Thanks for the great advice!
The interview was mainly focused on my AS texts and wider reading. I received an offer yesterday, conditional for 3A's.

Re: Ask a Current UCL Student: The Official Thread
I just got an email about portico. I went onto the new students website and it mentions pre-enrolment. Any idea what this is about? It says on the website:
"You will also be asked to accept UCL’s academic and financial regulations and agree to the Data Protection Statement. This is also your opportunity to familiarise yourself with the UCL Student Relationship guidelines."
But went I went into portico, I saw nothing about a data protection statement or a student relationship guideline. Can anyone shed any light? -
Re: Ask a Current UCL Student: The Official Thread
Hi, I have submitted my application (IMESS Politics and Security track) on the 26 April. I still haven't heard from them. Should I send them an e-mail, or I should wait a little? And another thing, is everyone who have applied been interviewed? What do they ask on interviews and how long do they last?
Thank you

Yes, I have received a conditional offer for the same track, I waited for a month and a half and was beginning to give up on it. Frankly, I was overjoyed when I got the offer a few days back.
I think you should wait till first half of June before you send them a mail regarding your application status. I was about to send them one 'cause the anticipation builds up, though I did not.
I have not been interviewed yet, but I think there might be one if you're selected for the scholarship as well. No interview for the offer though. So no worries! ^_^
What is your Year 2 choice? Mine is HSE, Moscow.
Good Luck though
