It's possible in intercollegiate halls but otherwise I think you're right.

I've known some people in UCL halls who weren't freshers, but they were usually finalists and might have had medical reasons or something. But yeah, it's not common.

What's the weather like in London at the moment? I will be arriving at UCL tomorrow and am loath to trust weather forecasts. :smug:

I'm starting to find Neuroscience really interesting, even more than Pharmacology. I'm also thinking of asking/begging UCL to allow me to swap Pharmacology with Neuroscience, do you think that they will allow me to swap courses?

Usually depends on the department/faculty, some over subscribed courses may not allow you to switch.

Judging by the fact that, according to the ucl prospectus, that neuro and pharma both take only 20 students per year (though i'm pretty sure they take more), i would doubt it as i'd assume they may have filled their places (and then some) for this year.

It's worth emailing the admissions tutors and asking if it is possible, it's the only definitive answer you'll get.
How can I find out what elective courses UCL offer?

What do you mean by elective courses? If you look around on your departments website, they'll usually have a page telling you the course programme.

depends on whether or not your course allows you any elective modules. If so, depends whether or not your BA or BSC, and then on the requirements of the department and room.

Basically just look at departments undergrad modules - see if their are perquisites and if u have the correct A levels etc

I found some of them!

I'll be doing psych BSc and am allowed 2 modules outside of psych in my first year.

That's a strange list. Basically all I had to do was during freshers week, email departments and ask them what they had left or if you just go on UCL geography, UCL language centre, UCL History, it shows you undergraduate modules - pick one - email. Boom.

I don't know where you got that list, but unless it's actually a Psych department document, then it's probably not correct. If a course says you can do 2 outside modules, you usually have completely free reign to choose whatever you like (with obvious exceptions for courses you aren't qualified to do!).

I am indeed. I'm hoping to get into Arthur Tattersall/John Tovell as they're right next to the IoA.

Hey guys, nice to know I might have some archaeology company at John Tovell next year :P I'm currently a 2nd year, but I got a offer for JT
Hi,

I'm about to attend UCL as a postgrad, but I was wondering about the facilities. I had a quick look at the virtual tour, and saw they had a swimming pool on campus, which was the first I'd heard about that.

Could someone give me a quick overview of some of the facilities there are on the UCL campus?

So far I've seen there's a gym and a swimming pool.

Thanks.

The pool is in ULU just by UCL on Malet Street, so you need a ULU gym membership to use it as a UCLU one won't cover it.

What other facilities do you want? That's quite a broad thing.

I suppose the breadth of the question might be why there wasn't a page outlining them... :P

When you talk about the ULU membership for the pool, is this the only pool and gym there is for the UoL colleges? It's all rather confusing!

Also, at your union do you have regular activities during the week nights? At my last University, Tuesdays were pub quiz and karaoke, Wednesday was the union night, etc.
Each constituent college of the UoL has its own gym. The UoL has a separate gym that happens to be right next to UCL. UCL's gym is better for weights and squash while the UoL's has a swimming pool. There's something or other on at the Union pretty much every weekday.

Well there's a gym in UCL union and ULU. ULU has a pool UCL doesn't. I've no idea about other UoL colleges. I'm sure they all have gyms at the very least but perhaps not a pool, especially the ones based in central London.

Here's the list of bars http://www.uclunion.org/bars-cafes/ Now slightly out of date as Huntley Street has closed replaced by the Lewis's Building. There are 2 quizzes a week, karaoke in one of the union bars on Gordon Street. I don't know what day. Each day has different priced drinks, I think Mondays are £1 for Carlsbergs pints, bottles of Stella, single+mixer etc.

Actually, here's the list of bar nights: http://www.uclunion.org/events/barnights.php

I'm sure there's a lot more stuff on there for you.
Thanks, that's great.

Anyone knows about the Bartlett faculty and the Development Planning Unit? Can anyone give me insights about teaching, quality and overrall experience there(especially in subjects such as environment or development), please?
thanks!
Hi,

I would like to know few stuff about UCL:

1) How good are the Bartlett faculty facilities?

2) Is the student union a good place to socialise? What about its students nights?

3) How about the societies and clubs? which one do you recommend to join?

4) IS there a UCL gym? is it better than UOL gym?

5) Any tips you feel it can be useful for a new student?

Thanks for your help
The UCL gym is better for lifting weights than the ULU gym. It has a squash court but does not have a swimming pool. So swings and roundabouts depending on what you want in life.

The Societies are usually pretty good at what they do but that's entirely dependent on your interests.

The SU is pretty cheap but the bar isn't particularly nice, though I haven't been to the new one. Plenty of drinking holes to start and end your night near UCL though if that is your kind of thing. Most people are not too bothered by the SU nights, though they're probably worth it during freshers week.

The main tip I'd give you is to be proactive. And save people's numbers under how you know them. e.g. Megan-Halls, Fred-Course, Billy Bob-Bongo Soc. This helps you remember people amid the mass of people you will inevitably meet during freshers (I am assuming you're an undergrad fresher here.)
