There's about a dozen at my school who applied for Medicine:

- 1 has offers from UCL, King's and Barts
- 1 has offers from Cambridge and King's
- 1 has offers from King's and Birmingham
- 1 has offers from Cardiff and Birmingham
- 1 has interviews at Manchester and Peninsula
- 1 has an interview at Manchester
- 1 has an interview at Birmingham
- 1 has rejections from Oxford and SGUL
- 1 has rejections from BSMS and Leicester
- 2 have rejections from King's (including myself)
- 1 hasn't heard a thing at all

Wow your school has loads applying for it!! In my school, there is never more than 3 people!! Awww don't worry, I'm sure you'll get one soon : ) I reckon they should set up a new med school for people who have been rejected from all of their unis hehe!! U agree?? Xxxx

If it makes you feel anymore, the 3 at my sixth form that applied for medicine 08 all three heard nothing at this point. 1 heard at the end of january and had 3 offers i think by the time ucas had finished, the other one got a rejection from manchester in december but then in march got 2 offers and the other one got no offers (but that was down to an admin problem at the sixth form) but got a reserve list place for Cardiff, but cardiff were over-subscribed so didn't get in. Shame really.

You'll all be ok, just focus on getting those A2 level grades at the moment, then when they have finished then worry about univerisities. At the end of the day it's your A2 levels that get you into Medicine not your ability to paniac over offers. I haven't personally been in that position (shock being a biomed I know!) but i have supported people through it.

You'll eventually get to your goal even if it's taking numerous gap years doing an Bsc's, Msc's (I even have spoken to something that did a pHD) then doing medicine.

Keep :smile:ing and good luck!!!

Awww I totally sympathize cos I'm the same as you!! There should be communication between all unis!! So that everyone gets 1 offer : ) I reckon my theory is great!!! Good luck, you'll get one!!xxxxx

Yeah, but my head of sixthform's horrible, and the first thing she said after I sent it off was 'you might not get any interviews with your AS grades'. It's like she wants me to fail, so that's just added pressure. :frown:

My form tutor said "With all your grades [she meant GCSE + AS] I can tell you now you'll get 4 rejections, you need some careers advice"

I now have 4 interviews, I went to see her and she ate her hat (though she said "oh the reference I gave you must have worked!" obviously it's nothing to do with me!).

Don't worry, honey, you have the potential and the drive to prove her wrong, and you will!

Just thought I'd chip in because I know how it feels for someone to tell you that, I went home and cried and it just put me down for weeks, nobody understood either. I was with my (now ex) boyfriend at the time and he said "Just ignore her". It just doesn't work like that.

Awwww you will be fine, just you wait! They will all be after u now!!
Don't listen to your head of year, mine said exactly the same!! I got so upset about it, but if I get an offer I willbe sure to pay him a visit to let him know hahaha!! What as grades did you get then if ya don't mind me asking!!

Btw..cockney??!! Haha that would be funny, considering I'm a
Welshy!! Saying that mind, I do a rather good cockney impression : D xxxx

Thank, you'll get an offer soon, I can tell.

And yeah, we should go and stick our tongues out at them, and say nah-nah-nah-nah-nah, just to be immature. :yep:

I got an A in geography, general studies and SPU, B in chemistry, and C in maths, chemistry and statistics. not the best, but I've just done my resits, so that should help, and I did relatively well on the UKCAT (677.5, not too bad :p:). And I've got enough work experience, my personal statement is good (I got like 20 people to read through it and give constructive criticism :p:). So fingers crossed anyway. :p:

And my friend and I often sing songs in a cockney accent at work. I'm not sure why, they're not meant to be in cockney accents... :s-smilie:

Jessaay!

Thanks, that's really reassured me. And you should bring a hat for her to eat.

Awww thanks for that! It's good to know that there is still hope for me : ) if you don't mind me asking.. What grades did you get at gcse!! How u finding your course?? Difficult I bet?? It seems like a hard course LOL!! Xxxxxx

I got 6A*s (Maths, Science Double Award, Geography, French 2nd language and Business Studies), 2As (English Lit and first language) and a B (Portuguese first language), for my IGCSEs. I retook Portuguese and got an A. I then went on to be predicted 42 in the IB (out of 45) and got 45 in May.

The course is, by and large, low on sheer academic difficulty but it completely overloads you with information! So far I've done all anatomy areas but the head, neck and pelvis, biochemistry and phisiology modules and specialised musculo-skeletal, alimentary, cardiac and pulmonary system lectures. It's quite okay if you make sure you're on top of stuff, though.

Good luck with your application! Where are you applying to?

elllloooooo fellow applicants!!
Just thought id make a forum for those of us who havent heard anything yet i.e an interview or an offer!
There are threads about offers and interviews etc, so why not make one for those of us who havent got anything yet eh!?

My current situation! :

-2nd time applicant
- Completed A levels, but am resitting certain modules cos i got ABC

Applied to:-

Cardiff- nothing
Southampton- nothing
Peninsula- nothing on track, but when i rung them just before xmas they said that if i hadnt heard anything then I had been rejected! :frown:
Liverpool- nothing

I have recieved an offer for biomedical science at cardiff though, which is my back up

WE CAN DO IT LOL!!

Hey im in the same boat as you- im ressiting. Ive only applied to two med schools though (soton and BSMS) i have had no response so far.

But they say no news is good news so keep your fingers crossed!

Yup, quite a lot of applicants at my school indeed. Ah, you can't be sure at all. Anyway, I'd rather them give you a place over me - only on the basis that you're a gapper and can't really afford to take another gap year so I hope it works out for you this time round!

I've been warming to the idea of a gap year if the worst does happen though. I don't think I'd go abroad, I'd prefer to commit to a job as a HCA. I'm only 17 and turn 18 in late August so taking a gap year isn't exactly going to hold me back a year considering I'm already the youngest in my year.

No offers for medicine yet :frown:. Got 1 for my fifth choice but....

Also, 1 rejection.

I havent heard from Peninsula yet so it's probably a rejection

I am currently in the same situation as you lot, I have no interviews/offers for medicine. I applied at Newcastle, Leicester, Glasgow and Aberdeen. I've been rejected from Leicester and I still haven't heard anything from the rest. I have got an offer for chemical engineering at UCL though as a backup.

There are two other people who have applied for medicine at my school. One of which has had four interviews and four offers I believe. The other one has 2 rejections and no interviews/offers.
Iv only heard from Liverpool myself..

But 10 people applied in my year and so far only 1 person has an offer from Nottingham 1 is on the waiting list for Kings and an interview from Cardiff and the other has an interview from Manchester and pooled from Cambridge.

The others still havnent heard from anywhere and many of them have a string of A*'s at GCSE and straight A's for AS. Medicine just seems so unfair!

i forgot to add that i have an offer for neuroscience but it just isnt the same as getting one for medicine. getting that offer letter IS actually a life changing decision unlike any other degree. i applied to soton, nottingham and uea. ironically my head of sixth form, tutor and bio and chem teachers have all said im not good enough for med. when i handed in my application they estimated that i would have got 4 rejections by december and can't understand why i haven't been rejected by now. they all said that i should do GEM knowing full well how hard it is to do it and that i would be "up against it this year". it's got to the point where what i do with my life is no concern of theirs and if i get rejections it's not their business. i applied to do medicine because i feel so strongly about it and to have the stength to apply when we have idiots like this advising us shows determination and commitment. we just need to pull through and carry on. in 12 weeks time we should have heard whether we're going to be drs. scary stuff

I have nothing, but this support group wont help.

The Admissions staff are sadistic and like to see us(the good applicants) suffer.
