Rape should be 40 years in jail, minimum. Plus more years added onto that for any other offences, such as the caustic soda (GBH) and the robbery. And no discount for 'good behaviour' in jail -good behaviour should be expected, and bad behaviour should result in extended sentences

I like the way you think.

We need either penal colonies ( A la "Devil's Island)
or turkish style prisons, with zero luxuries, rape sentences are a tragic joke in this country

If the girl was a relative I would hand out some individual justice when they got out of prison...Punisher style.

Amen to that!

I really dont think the justice system is good enough. That is sick, they should be in for life.
She was raped by 10 gangsters. Only several were convicted. Some walk free, others get out of jail while still in their 20s. And some disability charity people babbled about this sentence being insultingly low.

If the 16 yr old girl didn't have the mind of a 8 yr old, more of these gangsters would have been convicted...

The Metro actually gave more detail than the bbc. O_o Why didn't the bbc say only 3 of 10 rapist were convicted? Why didn't it mention anything about this girl having mental disability? There's your 100% accurate and unbiased bbc!

That is very sad.

I mean, I think our country, in terms of law, is very good. But with some subjects like rape, it seems to cause so much injustice.

I met a guy who's daughters were sexually abused by his ex-wife and her boyfriend. For two years, he erged the police and social services to help him stop it, but they did nothing about it. In the end, he ended up shooting his wife. He only intended to scare her with the gun, but apparently she just laughed in his face 'cause she knew he couldn't do anything about it. Even though his daughters forgive him and he's carrying on with a good life, he says he'd never do it again.

I couldn't imagine how horrible it is and I don't know how he held out for two years (not that I'd result to murdering someone).

Yeh fair enough but considering mostly all people would feel this way if something happened to someone they knew, I don't see whats wrong with it.

Punishment isn't about the victims, it's about the offender. Making someone suffer for the sake of it is ridiculous.

I wish more people in the judiciary thought like you.

6-9 years. Depressingly pathetic.

We all know that already, they're called The Labour Party,

Can you leave politics out of this? Most of us here are TRYING to avoid scoring talking points while debating this thing - you'll note that my feelings for the conservatives are not much different, but I want to or have to resort to comparing the opposition to rapists.

And for goodness sakes, what is that cross in your symbol?

And for goodness sakes, what is that cross in your symbol?
ROFL that would be the celtic cross.
Rape trio sentence to be reviewed

The Attorney General is reviewing the sentencing of three rapists who threw caustic soda over their victim, after criticism that it was too lenient

Bagration
ROFL that would be the celtic cross.

K, just asking because I've heard of it as a neo-nazi symbol.
It is used as a white power symbol. At least thats how I first learned of it.
At least they might get longer sentences. Mentally disabled people are more vulnerable.

Because, being relentlessly leftwing and full of out of touch liberals, the BBC doesn't want to highlight how abysmally poor the justice system is under its beloved NuLabour government.

EDIT: This liberal bias is also why the BBC, along with other leftwing media, frequently refer to such things as 'The 10 gangsters were jailed for a total of 50 years in jail', a completely misleading attempt to cover up the fact that the average sentence was a pathetic 5 years, which actually means more like 2 years if they plead guility and get parole...

EDIT: Also, liberals disapprove of prisons. They refer to the fact that prison sentences (currently) have a 55% reoffending rate, while community sentences (currently) have a 'much lower :eyeball:' 45% reoffending rate. They neglect to mention, of course, that while the criminal is in prison he has a 0% reoffending rate -because he/she is physically locked up- and also that the reoffending rates for prisons are currently so high because sentences are stupidly short and current conditions in prisons are not enough of a deterrent to prisoners to reoffend and end up back in there.
