Default Top 3 courses which define a university's prestige?

I would say:

Law
Economics
Business School

Not medicine because apparently all medicine schools are identical. Not Science/Engineering because they are undersuscribed. Not art/humanities courses because well, they are art/humanities courses .

Science and engineering are only undersubscribed at non-prestige universities...so i would say it is a good measure.

Nope. Even at Imperial CS (their premier course) has 4/5 applications to 1.

Strange. We're oversubscribed for Maths here this year
Meant to be 250 places, but there's 286 students.

For some people their subject is a substitute for porn, sometimes it's a religion, and in extreme cases it's a way of life.

In UK, I agree wholeheartedly.

In other countries, however, engineering is equally respected or more so than Economics is.

I don't see where you're going with that.. you've just confirmed his point; Imperial's oversubscribed for engineering (which is as he said it would be)..

They make 2-3 offers than the number of places so on average they reject maybe 2 candidates per place.

Looking at it from the other way, you could say they could fill their quota at least 4 times over (even including those that wouldn't accept if offered) given the number people applying.. hardly seems undersubscribed. More importantly though, as HCD mentioned, CS isn't the most competitive course at Imperial - AeroEng, for example, has more than 9 applicants per place..

I'd say for most TSR users it will probably be:

My course
The course most similar to my course
The course I almost chose but then didn't / the course I would have liked to do if I had had the grades

Agreed. Then we can look at subjects like EEE which are renowned for being insanely hard. I would also argue against the existence of a "premier course" at Imperial.

Also, hi!
