Re: Best Halls of Residence? (The Big Accommodation Choices Thread Mark II)Yeah, Fallowfield has a gang and I actually saw one around the old Whitworth Hall building on the uni campus. Even if they came from Platt Fields park they would have had to cross a very busy road to get here...(Original post by iamlovinit05)
Haha is Manchester filled with ducks? -
Re: Whitworth Park or Grosvenor place?
I've got some photos of the Grosvenor accommodation in my signature if you'd like to have a look. My friend's at Whitworth Park and she really enjoys it, it seems really sociable and friendly. However you're guaranteed a good sized room with a sink at Grosvenor (and a window seat which I absolutely adored!), whereas it's a lottery at Whitworth.

Re: Best Halls of Residence? (The Big Accommodation Choices Thread Mark II)Not necessarily. It depends on your flatmates - I've got pretty decent ones, and barely anything has gone walkabout. Much more likely is that people will borrow your kitchen equipment and then not wash it up for days / not wash it up properly.(Original post by aprilannep)
Why why why why why why?! But they're gna steal my cheese!!!! -
Re: Best Halls of Residence? (The Big Accommodation Choices Thread Mark II)Would you steal someone else's cheese? They won't steal anything, and your mini fridge won't be cold enough to store cheese properly anyway. Just write your name on everything. If any food ever goes missing then it's usually an accident/their friends took it thinking it was your flatmate's.(Original post by aprilannep)

I remember feeding some wild ducks in New Zealand and ended up getting pecked... -

Re: Best Halls of Residence? (The Big Accommodation Choices Thread Mark II)
Hey guys, I've firmed Manchester, now I'm wondering which halls to choose and some advice would be great.

First off, I know I want to be in Fallowfield, I definitely want the 'proper student experience' people keep talking about.
I'm quite a sociable guy who likes going out, hanging around and meeting people, but I'm not a massive noisy social beast and I don't really fancy Owen's Park or Oak House, tbh. I'm looking for sociable people who like going out on the town and/or partying at least once or twice per week, somewhere where there's a music room (hopefully there'll be plenty of people to jam and form bands with), preferably catered and close to sports facilities. Mixed-sex halls is a must.
I went to the open day and, though I didn't get to look around every hall, Woolton Hall looked pretty good. The only thing is, I've heard there's lots of snobs and rahs there and I can't really deal with people like that, though I don't really want to be living with a bunch of d1cks either (I know I'm being a bit of a snob and a douche myself here, haha). I'm just looking for nice, social, genuine sort of people in Fallowfield catered halls, not arsed about class, background, interests (though music is a bonus) whatever, just as long as I can get along with at least some of the
inhabitants and can both study and party. Any ideas?
Cheers -
Re: Best Halls of Residence? (The Big Accommodation Choices Thread Mark II)
I've decided I definitely want to live in Fallowfield but my big choice is between Oak House and Owens Park, I originally wanted to be in self catered halls but I like the set up of Oak House better as it seems to look more sociable instead of self contained flats. Is catered food that bad? and worth the extra money? because I am a very fussy eater and don't know if would even eat it and don't want to waste the money. Can someone help me please?

Re: Best Halls of Residence? (The Big Accommodation Choices Thread Mark II)
Hi. This is Sharonn, international student from Hong Kong. I've firmed Manchester studying Accounting and Finance this September.
I would like to apply accommodation which is located in the city as it is nearer to my department building.
En suite would be better for me and social life is not really necessary for me so I dont really mind about the bars/clubs.
So I have Lambert and Fairfield Halls, Opal Hall and Weston Hall in my mind now. Any suggestions and how long will it take to go to the main campus? Anyone who has photos of inside the halls to share?
Thanks a lot! -
Re: Best Halls of Residence? (The Big Accommodation Choices Thread Mark II)Hello, I've got some pictures of Lambert and Fairfield and Weston Hall here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ellakrystina/sets/ It takes less than five minutes to get to the main campus from both of those halls on the free university bus. It would probably take you about 20 minutes to walk to the main campus. However if you have any of your classes on the North (science) campus then you're right next to the university buildings.(Original post by barbarasharonn)

I don't know anything about Opal Hall I'm afraid. -
Re: Best Halls of Residence? (The Big Accommodation Choices Thread Mark II)
So... I have literally NO idea which place I want to for... I play some instruments, so a music room would be ideal. But that and self-catering are pretty much the only criteria that are really important to me. So far Oak House seems like a pretty swingin' place so far. IN SUMMARY, what kinds of other stuff do you guys consider to be important when choosing accommodation?

Re: Best Halls of Residence? (The Big Accommodation Choices Thread Mark II)
I need some advice on where to actually apply for accommodation- I have no idea where to start!
I was thinking of Fallowfield, specifically Oak House, but I'm not really into lot's of partying and stuff! So would Fallowfield/Oak House be good for me? I'm not looking for somewhere that's completely dead (I've heard that's what Victoria Park is like), but would like the choice of when to go out and when to stay in!
