When and where should I start apply for work?
hi guys, im in my third year and just wanted to get your input and thoughts on when i should apply for work, and where, ie it is allegedly easier to obtain work abroad at the moment, (austrailia was offering incentives perhaps??). My head of year said something around 3 months as a timeframe as that is a timescale in which a firm can realistically estimate what work they will have on then. advice from current year out students would be particularly helpful.
thanks

yeah, normally march is a good time to apply. but not this year, i'm afraid.
opportunities are meant to be better in australia at the mo from fellow students who are out there, but its a **** storm out there, most practises are shedding jobs at a rate of knots, so its going to be tough for your year, i fear. good luck. if you have any contacts, then call them in now, regardless of the quality, you just need the experience. increasingly part Is are working for free just to get the experience to progress to part II, which is clearly a bugger. -

hands off our biscuit breaks. coffee at 11AM and tea at 3PM. I like the way the WSA is so fastidious about its classification of the breaks. most of the people i contacted last march told me to contact them again after i'd graduated, but equally i think some schools have historically encouraged their students to apply from jan. i think in this economic environment that's a bit pointless given the about of uncertainty. my advice would be not to think about it too much, just focus on your final project, learn as much as you can from that, and see where the cards fall. its largely out of your hands. i didn't get a job until after i really started applying in earnest after my final review.
