I'm already a fatty, so that witticism need not be continued

Thanks for the responses everyone, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who sees a lot of pros!
Crap public transportation, for one. And the health system is kinda screwed up.

Also, our food sucks. And so does a lot of our television.

I haven't been in one in months. But at the one near me, none of the employees I've met have been Hispanic.

America is not one homogeneous entity. In general, on the social side, people are less reserved, there is less drinking, and there is no class warfare. Economically, the US is far wealthier. Average salaries for most jobs are significantly higher. There are far more high-paying jobs available. The upturn of that is that there is less job security, there is more economic inequality, and people work longer and harder. The politics depends entirely on where you go. Generally speaking, the US is more right-wing than Britain, but every state has its really left wing and really right wing areas. Some states are more extreme in one direction than others. Most rural areas and much of the south is very socially conservative and everything that entails. The northeast and the west coast are very socially liberal. The rest of the country is somewhere in between. But once again, these are all generalizations and don't apply to every person in the country. You won't know whether you like a particular part of the US until you spend some time there (I would imagine the same is true of most countries).

Tsk, why only Hispanics? There are over a hundred thousand illegal Canadians in the US. :p:

Having done a year in the states, I would consider it to be better over-all, though I can't really be arsed to go over everything now.

Washington would probably be my destination of choice though.

San Francisco is absolutely stunning BTW - you must visit it if you haven't already. Blew me away tbh...

OMG been there twice.. most beautiful place i have ever been.. EVER..

the walk to and from the golden gate bridge is just awesome.
