Re: Student Finance Applications - Q & ANo, my term starts the 22nd September(Original post by alibee)
The predicted date of your payments aren't related to when you sent the form off.... Maybe your term starts late.
And throughout the application process they issue warnings that you might not get your loan on time if you do not apply by the deadline, so from that I assumed that it would be related...Last edited by megan.c; 27-07-2012 at 13:46. -

Re: Student Finance Applications - Q & AOn my thing it definitely says 17th October for tuition and maintenance :/(Original post by catestevenson)
No one's really guaranteed to get their payment on time but it shouldn't change the scheduled date of your payment.
They may have misprinted though I guess - I did get a statement saying I'd get £0 for anything but phoned them up and they'd sent the right letter out before I'd even got the wrong one :P -
Re: Student Finance Applications - Q & ASounds like a mistake to be honest. Does it say the same online?(Original post by megan.c)

Not that it's totally accurate online either (mine says I don't have any payments). It's probably worth ringing them because it definitely sounds like a mistake. -
Re: Student Finance Applications - Q & AI tried looking online but couldn't log on, I'll give them a ring tomorrow to make sure though(Original post by catestevenson)

Re: Student Finance Applications - Q & A
Hi
My mother [who is supporting my application] has went part-time since she submitted her information in april. however since she starts on the new pay in september, she doesn't have any official documentation yet. Is there any procedure for this sort of thing happening, or is your student finance always based on the previous years family income no matter how much that has changed?

Re: Student Finance Applications - Q & AMaximum Maintenance Loan figures from Directgov:(Original post by Eggs and Ham)
Hi everyone!
I was wondering if you can help me. What is the maximum maintenance grant and maintenance loan for 2012/13? Does anyone know how they award the maintenance grant, ie is there an awarding criteria you have to meet to obtain the full amount?
You live at home: £4375
You live away from home and study outside London: £5500
You live away from home and study in London: £7675
You spend a year of a UK course studying overseas: £6535
The maximum maintenance grant is £3,250 and how much you get is based on household income. You get the full grant if your household income is less that £25k.
For every £1 grant you receive you receive 50p less maintenance loan.
You can estimate what you're eligible for here. -
Re: Student Finance Applications - Q & AThis is confusing for me. I need further advice, the SLC don't seem to be able to answer my query.(Original post by catestevenson)

You mentioned the Direct.gov.uk website states that if I live away from home and study outside London, it's 5,500. But I've just looked on my online application ('amount requested') and it states I've requested the 'maximum amount' which is 3,875. I've applied to be income assessed and the 3,875 figure is for non-income assessed. The SLC said as my application has been submitted I can't do anything now. Do these figures seem right to you? -
Re: Student Finance Applications - Q & A
hi, my application is finished and i have sent in my declaration a few weeks ago.
I need to change my course. i am doing a foundation year to then go on to either an Mechanical Meng of Beng.I have emailed the admissions and they said to put down the course i hope to study after the foundation year and that their should be an option to extend it by a year. i can't find this option, any avice/where is it?
sorry for rambling :P -
Re: Student Finance Applications - Q & AIt's £3575 for non-income assessed actually. So you may well have got the maximum for your household income if you've got the extra £300.(Original post by Eggs and Ham)

Re: Student Finance Applications - Q & A
Hi,
Don't know if this has been asked but i'm not going through the whole 300 pages! lol
Firstly, have applied for Student Finance (had a ball ache with it because of my mums marital status too...)
still haven't heard anything back yet either... but since applying i have moved out of my mums and in with a friend and their family in South Wales ready to start uni down here in September.
My question is, does my household income assesment change because I have moved in with my friend or does it still go off my mums income? I am 21 btw
Thanks in advance. -
Re: Student Finance Applications - Q & AOkay. So how does the SLC assess my income (I'm an independent student- parents income are not taken into account, mine are)? All it asked for in the application was 'Other Income' ie bank interest and I put down 7p for that.(Original post by .gina)

Re: Student Finance Applications - Q & AYour own earned income is not relevant to your assessment. You should receive the maximum award if unearned income is low.(Original post by Eggs and Ham)

Re: Student Finance Applications - Q & A
Hi,
Urgently need some advice!
I recently made changes to my Student Finance Application from the TV course at the University of Westminster to the Film & TV course at the University of the Arts. Aside from that I made no other changes, not to the amount of loan, any other personal details or financial information.
My original finance offer from May 4th gave £9000 in tuition fees to be paid to the university and £9618 in loans and grants to be paid to me.
I recently got the replacement offer with the change of course. It says I'm entitled to £3465 tuition fee loan and £8420 in loans and grants.
The tuition fee at the changed course is £9000! It even said so during the course change application!
I have already secured and paid a £300 deposit for accommodation with the University of the Arts with a total rent of £8160 (basic room).
Even with the old offer of £9618 I'd be barely scraping through with approx £1500 to last me my whole first year, but now, with the revised offer of £8420 after I pay the rent I'll have £260 to last me a the whole first year university!
That's £26 per month! It's not only a bloody disgrace but also completely impossible.
Very sorry about the rant but I'm really panicking now. Please help. -
Re: Student Finance Applications - Q & AThat's ~£195 p/w, even for London that's a pretty expensive room choice. If you're so worried about money they you should have gone with something cheaper but you'll have to ring student finance to sort out any mistakes and any extra money you'll have to get from parents/a job.(Original post by Mati1)

Re: Student Finance Applications - Q & A
Student Finance have told me today that they're going to pay me a maintenance loan of just £1811. This works out at just £600 per term, which won't even pay rent, never mind bills and food. I phoned them up to ask why they've paid me such a pathetic amount, and the woman told me it was right but it would be reassessed. Last year I got £4600. How could my household income have changed so drastically that I'm being offered less than half what I got last year? My mum seems to think it's because she declared the gross amount and not net amount of her earnings, but even without the household assessed income, most students still get over £3000. Why has this happened?
EDIT: Well I found out the problem, turns out I answered 'Yes' to a confusingly phrased question about whether I'd applied for a bursary from the NHS or Department of Health, when my course is as unrelated to medicine as you can get.Last edited by Tnetinbum; 06-08-2012 at 23:15.
