Re: Dry/Tickly cough!I do sometimes but not like yesterday, everything is coming down my nose, my ears are blocked and all. My chest kinda hurts too and swallowing food feels weird(Original post by Revd. Mike)
I know it's shocking! My GP charges £15 for a letter to school, or £30 for a letter to work! Bloody cheeky.
It doesn't sound like you've got a chest infection tbh, if it's dry and tickly, and not chesty, and you're not coughing up sputum.

Re: Dry/Tickly cough!Ok, paracetamol then. Pain killers are used a lot in cold/flu type medications, paracetamol's in night nurse so it must do something.(Original post by Revd. Mike)
Ibuprofen's not a good choice, it's notorious for causing respiratory problems in some people. Also, the OP doesn't seem to need pain relief? And fizzy drinks are just likely to irritate the throat.
I find that coke and sprite help pretty much instantly, although you'd think the opposite... I guess the syrupy rubbish coats the throat and stops it itching. -
Re: Dry/Tickly cough!Paracetamol doesn't do much at all for the cough. Night nurse isn't aimed just at coughs, it's aimed at the full range of symptoms of colds. The paracetamol in it is simply to ease the pain of congestion.(Original post by Zastrugi)

Re: Dry/Tickly cough!Hmmm. I'm reluctant to suggest anything now you're on other meds, to be honest. If it's just a tickly cough, which is still bugging you following antibiotics... I'd suggest pholcodeine linctus. It's a basic syrup which works in oh so many cases that I've seen. But I can't quite remember the active ingredient in Difflam, and whether they'd be any interaction(Original post by spikeymike)
Nothings working...
still coughing my guts out at night.

I could check at pharmacy for you and let you know about six 'o' clock this evening?

Re: Dry/Tickly cough!I've got the docs again in 20mins(Original post by Revd. Mike)
As far as I'm aware (and just double checked with the BNF) there's no contraindication. Definitely give pholcodine linctus a try, or a dextromethorphan syrup.
If it's really keeping you up at night, then Night Nurse or Nytol might be worth a try.
