Can anyone clear this up for me?
Teacher today told me
You need 90% in each A2 module.
If I got 97 in unit 3 and 88 in unit 4, would that be an A*?
I was always under the impression that 180 UMS at A2 was an A*, not necessarily 90 in each A2 unit -

I'm a bit confused. If i have a B in one AS unit (A in the other) and 90%+ in A2 units, can I still get an A*? -
Re: A* at A level question thread.I did before I posted, sorry but its just that I read something else on another thread so I'm a bit confused!!(Original post by Good bloke)

If you read the OP of this thread you'll find that your teacher doesn't know what he/she is talking about.
Thought I'd seek direct clarification from someone who could answer the question instead of relying on whats posted in the OP. No need to be like that. -
Re: A* at A level question thread. The whole point of this thread is to provide authoritative information about the A* grade, and pretty well everything you could want to know is in the OP. It is an official TSR sticky thread.(Original post by ilickbatteries)

Like what? I merely directed you to the OP.No need to be like that. -

Re: A* at A level question thread.
So you know those who get As this year, will they have done just as well as those who had As before the introduction of A stars, or are their marks equivalent to those who had B last year. Oor does it just mean that the grade boundaries for A star are within the grade boundaries that were once for just an A.

An A is still 80%+, just an A* is 90%+ -

S1 70 , S2 71, C1 91, C2 100, C3 99, C4 100,
does this qualify for A*?
; Congrats!

Re: A* at A level question thread.
Hi,
Please help me clear out this tiny doubt.
Is it necessary that I must achieve A* in each individual unit or just overall??
For example:
A2 Edexcel Chemistry
Unit 4- 104/120 86.6%
Unit 5- 110/120 91.6%
Unit 6- 56/60 93.3%
Overall 270/300= 90%
Is it possible that because I didn't achieve A* (90%) in my Unit 4 exam but overall I did get 480/600, will it still have any affect on my overall grade for possibly achieving A*?? -

I read it. I am little bit confused. I'd appreciate if someone could just clear out my tiny doubt.
It couldn't be any more explicit or offering any less scope for doubt, could it?What mark do you need to be able to receive an A*?
*80% UMS overall
*90% UMS Overall for the A2 units -
Re: A* at A level question thread.
At my parents' evening today, my biology teacher said that no one got an A* in our school for biology or chemistry last year because it was calculated differently to other subjects, so even though they had technically earned one, they still didn't receive it.
Is this true? And if so, could someone explain how they're calculated for OCR science A-levels. -
Re: A* at A level question thread.
I'm a little confused about the math A*. I do Edexcel modules in Math C1, C2, C3, C4, FP1 and FP2.
The OP and Wikipedia say that "For the Maths A-level, the A* will require 80% average for the whole A-level (this is standard A grade criteria), plus a 90% average over C3 and C4. This means that you must get 180 UMS in total for C3 and C4." So 80% across C1-FP2 and just 90% in C3 and C4? Or is FP2 considered A2 as well?
