So you could get 85% in AS and then like 90% in C3 and C4 and like 50% in one applied module and still get an A*? :O, are resits allowed?
    resits are allowed.

Hey, quick question: is the 90% UMS required for an A* split between the two A2 units (so that 80/100 and 100/100 is an A*) or do you have to get 90% UMS in each A2 unit (so that only 90+/100 and 90+/100 is an A*)?

If you read the OP of this thread the answer will become clear.

    I think it's 90% OVERALL for the A2 Units so I think yes, that '80/100 & 100/100 is an A*'.

As it says in the very first post of this thread.

To get an A* I thought you just needed 90% overall on your A2 exam...yet this states you need A at AS?

No it doesn't. It states you need an A overall as well as 90% at A2.

'My A2 units add up to an A* but I got a B overall. Why is this?

You need to achieve an A grade across all the A Level units – both AS and A2. In this case, you may not have done as well in your AS units and you may
wish to consider whether you should re-sit your AS units to improve your overall grade.'

But on the actual article about A* grade on here, is says you don't need A at AS?

You have to average at least 90% across the 3 A2 units, so yes, that includes the coursework.

You don't need an A at AS, but you do need to average an A over the whole A level, i.e. at least 320 UMS for 400 UMS subjects and at least 480 UMS for 600UMS subjects.

So, for instance, if I got 80 UMS over my two modules in Biology but 90 UMS or more in my A2 modules then I would still get an A*? If so then my worry about getting 90 UMS in my AS level is pointless. :P
Correct, except that there are 6 units in A level Biology, not 4 as you seem to imply - you need to include the coursework/practical unit at both AS and A2.

Re: A* at A level question thread
Hi, I'm not sure whether I have read the thread correctly, but here is my situation. I got a B grade (76) and an A grade (94) in my History units at AS, therefore this is in the 80% - 85% category. Even if I get above 90% this year, does this mean I can still get an A* at the end of A2?

Oh okay, thank you. So if you get a B at AS and over 90% at A2, would that be an A* considering you've already achieved an A? Also, do you know whether a grade is a grade? In that, is there such thing as a low B and a high B or, if you achieve the grade, it is the same regardless?

Yes. I have known several people get a B at AS but manage an A* at the full A level without retaking (though only in arts subjects).

It is the same regardless. The certificate just shows a grade e.g. A. Future employers have no way of telling whether you scraped the grade or obtained it with a good margin to spare.

Thank you very much for your help!

The subject I was referring to was English Literature, as well
