not true, you can get 95 and 85

This is true.

An A* in Maths requires:
80% UMS overall from the 6 modules
and 90%+ in C3 and C4 (I'm not sure exactly if it's an average or 90% in each)

its an average . e.g. C3 95 , C4 88.

Okay sorry i dont understand. Some people say you need an average of 80% overall and 90% in c3 and c4. So in AS maths I can get in the three modules C1: 80% , M1: 60% C2: 80% and then in A2 get for the three modules I can get S1: 90% and in C3: 90% and C4: 90% and still get an A* for A level Maths?

Thank you again

noooooooo! you just need an overall AVERAGE of 80% in ALL modules and an AVERAGE of 90% in C3 and C4.

e.g. C1 75, C2 85, S1 80, S2 75, C3 95, C4 88.

For further maths you need overall 80% average and 90% average in the best 3 A2 modules.

Hope this helps.
you probably can find this information on the exam board web sites, Im sure it's on Edexcel's specification website.

ooooo.. Okay Thank you very much! I finally understand loll!
A* at A level from summer 2010

A* will be awarded at A level (but not at AS) to students cashing-in from summer 2010 onwards. The general principle is that achievement at A2 should be recognised, and so an A* will be awarded to students who achieve a grade A overall and 90% or more of the UMS on the A2 units (as an aggregate, not on each separate A2 unit).

However, since some Mathematics combinations have three A2 units and some have two A2 units, the A* will be awarded to students who have achieved a grade A overall (480 UMS or more) and 180 UMS or more on the total of their C3 and C4 units.

Examples:

Mathematics:

C1 = 90, C2 = 79, C3 = 95, C4 = 94, M1 = 87, M2 = 89 total = 534 UMS, grade A* awarded

C1 = 70, C2 = 70, C3 = 93, C4 = 94, M1 = 77, S1 = 78 total = 482 UMS, grade A* awarded

C1 = 95, C2 = 98, C3 = 92, C4 = 87, D1 = 87, D2 = 89 total = 548 UMS, grade A awarded

C1 = 90, C2 = 92, C3 = 91, C4 = 92, M1 = 57, D1 = 58 total = 479 UMS, grade B awarded

This was taken straight from the edexcel website.

Anum, thank you for your reply, but what do you mean by the other 6 modules is that including C3 and C4 or excluding because i am only doing 6 modules including C3 and C4 if that made sense.

so from what i understand i need 90% average UMS from C3 and C4 and an overall 80% UMS from C1, C2, S1, M1. And these UMS could be average so it doesn't necessarily need to be 90 or 80 UMS on each. so i could get 95 on C3 and 85 on C4

sorry for the late reply, ive only just seen now that you replied to my post... err yes i think what you said like you hav to get an overall average of 80% UMS from C1, C2, S1, M1, and yeah my teacher told me tht for C3 and C4 its an average, so u could get 95 on one and 85 on the other .. as long as the average is 90 or above :smile:
I have 4 months to self-teach:

C3, C4 and S1 for maths (3 modules) and still get 90%+
3 AS modules for physics, and still get 70%+
4 AS modules for chemistry, and still get 80%+

...and still have a life

possible?

thanks
^^^
How you're going to self teach 4 AS modules in chemistry is beyond me, but of course it's possible.
Good luck!

Is that all the exams? If so then it should be possible. Why not? 4 months is a long time and if you can focus your work and revision and plan out everything that you have to do then it should be possible.

I was referring to the fast that you said 4 AS modules. There are only 3, aren't there? :confused:

Anyway, of course you can.

so you don't need an A* in each A2 module?
Someone quote me asap!
