Post-grad CV's..

Dear friends,

I'm currently in my final year of a Genetics degree. I'm looking to apply for PhD and Masters positions for Autumn.

I was hoping you kind folks would give me some tips in writing CV's required for the post-grad appliactions. I've never written a CV before, and don't know where to start.

Or please direct me to the relevent thread, if there is one.

Your help would be much appreciated

Have a look here:
http://www.mathscareers.org.uk/graduates/finding_a_job/how_to_write_an_academic_CV.cfm

and

http://www.kent.ac.uk/careers/cv/PostgradCV.htm

Basically, you'll need to focus on your academic achievements:
- education to date
- subjects covered and dissertation topics
- publications / conference papers given, if you have any at this stage
- academic distinctions, such as scholarships or prizes

I always put this section at the top of my academic CV (employment CV is different). This section is then followed by 'Relevant Work Experience', which focuses on work where I picked up useful skills which I see as relevant for my academic career. It plays down those months spent in Tesco....

After these sections I briefly cover other (unrelated) work experience, computer and language skills and interests. I then list two/three academic referees.

Hope this is of some help.
Most places in the UK will give you an application form rather than expect you to provide a CV.

Also look on www.prospects.ac.uk that has a section on writing CVs and has a section on academic (science) CVs with examples.
