    DUO email with iPhone/Blackberry
I'm looking into getting either of these phones, and was wondering whether anyone uses their DUO email on a Blackberry or iPhone. I know it sounds geeky but it's my primary email account now so I do need to stay connected to it, especially as i do a lot of eBaying!

I imagine it should work seeing as I have duo on my Mac via Entourage, but would really appreciate clarification

    Thanks in advance.

I have an iPhone, and I haven't tried setting up DUO email as I couldn't get it working with Mail on my Mac, I just get it via webmail (which as the browser is so good, is pretty easy). A note though, even if you do manage to get it to work, it would only work when you were connected to the uni wireless, due to how the Exchange server is set up. (Like on your Mac, it won't work when you're connected to the internet at home, only in uni).

If it works on entourage, it will work on Blackberry. The steps to set up my gmail were exactly the same on entourage mac as they were on my BB storm, so it should work, although I've never heard of duo before :s

iPhone is a little bit temperamental with email I heard.

Also, you can pair up your blackberry with your macbook if you have one and use it as a tethered modem, as long as you don't go over the fair use limit on your data connection - you can't do that with an iPhone.

If DUO wont let you do it - set up a forwarding rule that sends all your mail to a Gmail account. You can then use the Blackberry with this instead.

I've done exactly that ^^ forwarded email to Gmail and connected up from there to my phone. Comes in very useful when lecturer decides to cancel lecture 20 mins before the start and you are in town just about to set off to Science site.

I don't understand lecturers that do that. It's so irresponsible.

Because students are just their to keep the lights on as far as some lecturers are concerned.

    1) The 'DUO email' is completely separate to DUO. DUO just provides a hacky outdated way of viewing it within the DUO website.

    2) You can forward with OWA itself by using its rules, but it does it in a rubbish way. You can achieve better results with 'fetchmail', which you can probably run on the university vega servers.

It's not that hard to set up DUO email directly. I've done it on Android. Use the following tutorial:

    http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/searc...rnalId=KB03133

The items to input are the following:

email: obviously your durham email address.
    password: durham password
    Outlook web address URL: exdurf.dur.ac.uk
    (if necessary) domain: mds
user name: obviously your durham user name.
mailbox name: DUO, or Dur or whatever you want

Hope that's helpful. It ought to work!

fyi, I did all that yesterday and it worked...
a few alterations to make it clearer what I did:

email: obviously your durham email address. so a.b@durham.ac.uk
password: durham password - used with the ITS log in
    Outlook web address URL: http://exdurf.dur.ac.uk
user name: obviously your durham user name. - ITS log in
mailbox name: DUO, or Dur or whatever you want - I made mine my durham e-mail, but I don't know if it makes a difference.

Thanks but I've done all that and it doesn't work buuut I've now sorted it and I'll put my alt method up for anyone searching in the future.

First you have to get IMAP access from its (if you google it, the page about this should appear and within the e-mail they'll prompt you to send a message to its that you want IMAP access and you'll have to type in your phone number or something)

Well, I forwarded all my mail through to my bb e-mail address. It turns out that more things turn up on durham email when you use INTERNET EXPLORER - if you login to your email then "rules" appears as an option (where inbox, outbox and all that stuff is), where you can opt to forward your e-mail to whatever address.

Not exactly the same I realise but so far I've had enough problems with my bb that I'm done doing it the hard way now, hehe

    Re: DUO email with iPhone/Blackberry
The 'rules' option in IE deliberately forwards the mail in a very poor way, messing up the subject line and replacing some content. IMAP is a much better solution in general, though it requires slightly more effort to email ITS.
