I'm thinking more along the lines of living plants and not plant products (provided that there are antimicrobial properties of living plants).

erm, they secrete some of the stuff mentioned while they are still living methinks, they dont have an immune system as such so they rely on chemicals they produce which have antimicrobial effects. (Hope this helps a little!)
