Default Archaeological dig

I'd love to join an archaeological dig for a month or so this summer, anywhere really (although somewhere in the sun would be nice).
I've googled it but without much luck, the things I've found are just very expensive, and I don't want to have to pay to do it, except for of course I don't mind paying a bit for cheap accommodation and food.

Anyone else know of/ done anything like this?

There are some that I know of in Spain, Israel and I think Albania... it's been a while since I looked so I'm not entirely sure of the websites

Oh and you won't be able to get on a dig for free abroad without being a university student and recommended by an institution I wouldn't have thought.

I think you can do archaeology holidays but they're not proper.
