Default Archaeology

Heyyy,

Bit of a longshot but, any Archaeology folks out here? I hear the course isn't massively subscribed so I've never been able to find anyone who either does Archaeology at Manchester or will even be doing a similar subject - Anthropology, Ancient History...etc. I'd really like to know about the course: the lectures/lecturers, the people on the course, the trips and opportunities and just general info really. Either that or I'd just like to meet someone in my little boat!

Cheers in advance!

Lou

Hey there - I'm surprised you haven't got any replies yet, actually! I think there are quite a few Archaeology students out there (in general, I don't know if any of them are on TSR)...

I am taking my Free Choice module (I'm studying Russian, not Archaeology) in Archaeology - the Introduction to World Archaeology module, taken by all first year Archaeology students, as far as I'm aware. It's been fun so far the lecturers have been excellent and the lectures have been good. I studied Archaeology last year at SOAS, and I have found it's better at Manchester. Then again the two courses have proved quite different so far, but this is just my opinion.

I am loving my free choice module so far, Archaeology is just so interesting! It's really a shame they don't offer a Joint Degree of Russian and Archaeology, because I'd really want to do it!

Sorry I couldn't be of any more help, but I just thought I'd let you know that Archaeology at Manchester isn't totally dead or anything - I think there are about 120 people enrolled on Introduction to World Archaeology! I can't speak for any other modules or anything, but this one is great fun

Thank you for the reply, and on a side note Russian is probably one of my favourite languages - I wish I knew more of it!

Yeah, Archaeology interests me greatly - it's nice to know that the lecturers have been good and the topics interesting.

Thanks again!

So Manchester has a good archaeology department? I'm considering applying for my graduate studies. Still undecided as to where?

Well, it's a good university in general, but this is what the university says about it's Archaeology Dept:

Archaeology at The University of Manchester is taught by an enthusiastic team of academics with a growing international reputation. In the spring of 2001 Manchester Archaeology underwent a teaching quality assessment by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education, and scored 23 out of a possible 24 points.

And this video is interesting:
