how to type the pipe symbol (|)

I need to be able2 type a pipe symbol, as only way i know is to use character map. But i need2 do it by typing

anyone know how?

Use brackets and on Caps lock press the key on your key board next to 'Z' on the left (|) (hold shift when you press it)

Alt + 124 if you haven't got a key for it.

You have to use the number pad keys to get this to work in case anyone's having problems using the numbers above the letters!
pipe symbol? (|) looks like an ass to me

Depending on your keyboard layout, it might be next to the Z (shift + letter-next-to-Z), or shift+letter-above-return, or shift+letter-to-the-left-of-enter.

If youve got a UK keyboard with a US layout, it's marked as # ~
