Post How do I do Home Economic AS Level at home?

My college don't do a Home Economic AS Level, but a near ish college does. But that college is too far to travel for the course. How would I go about doing it as distance learning or home study? I've heard that I can be a private candidate & just hand in any assignments & do exams at a centre? Would my college or the nearby college do this???

you can ask them more information about it and as for the distant learning try searching some stuff on the internet you should find loads of help and tips available.

I plan to do in degree in nutrition or dietetics, that's why I want to do home economics.

I have searched the internet & I can't seem to find any information on this issue.

My college don't have a good variety of subjects on offer unfortunately & nutrition related courses have been gradually stopped over the years through a lack of interest in the subject in my area :o( I can't seem to find any local colleges even offering any A Levels too!

Pick the board you like, buy the books they recommend, read them and learn them.

I've heard that I can be a private candidate & just hand in any assignments & do exams at a centre? Would my college or the nearby college do this???

You wouldn't be doing homework as a private candidate. You'd just do the coursework (if there is any) and exams at the centre. You'll have to ask them if they'd be willing to let you.

You really don't need to do home economics for anything to be perfectly honest.

I can understand people doing A-levels privately if their school/college can't timetable them in for essential subjects such as maths or history which they need for their future degree choice but home economics really doesn't qualify for that level of importance as it is not required specifically for any degree.

Surely it would be a good choice alongside biology & chemisty for a degree in dietetics or nutrition related???

I am currently studying nutrition and dietetics and there are no unis that require you to have taken home economics. Maybe this because hardly any schools are colleges offer it? in my opinion biology and chemistry a-levels are vastly more useful to have and what really impresses admission tutors is work experience! Concentrating on get the best grades possible in biology and chemistry and getting eperiene in a dietetics dept. will be a better use of your time

I intend on doing biology & chemistry as main subjects, but wouldn't home economics be a useful subject to have as well?

How are you studying both dietetics & nutrition by the way, that sounds ideal?

Also can work experience be in any subject or does it have to be related to nutrition?
