essential science?

hey I was wondering if anyone could help me with this...

My school paid for me to do a teaching as a foreign language course, and in return I'm helping to teach two year 11s who have come from Africa and China with very little English (at the beginning of this year). However, they now want me to try and teach them some science. Even though they are not taking it at GCSE, this is the level I will have to be doing with them, although obviously it's difficult seeing as scientific language is almost another separate one to English.

I don't have enough time to do much, so I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas on what you would consider 'essential' to know, things that will help them later in life to understand.
