Holy :snow::snow::snow::snow:, so it's pretty far away then :frown:

Nottt at all. Tubes are fine, 15 mins away compared to end to end london-2 hours at peek time.

I thinks its a perfect place to live. Central-East London without the prices. To get from South Kensington (the other side of London), it toke me about 30 mins, which, I'd say, was pretty good.

Er no, not really. Have you ever even been to London? Mile End is two stops from Liverpool Street on the Central Line ffs.

Also, all that makes buses take a long time is the traffic, and traffic lights. From about 7pm onwards it's much quicker.

Oh well excuse me for thinking an hour and a half walking time is pretty far.

It is quite far, yes, but London is a massive city so I don't know what else you were expecting :eyeball:

Seriously, if you think QMUL is "far out" then spare a thought for UEL and TVU students. Yes - UCL, KCL, LSE etc are more "central" but you'd have to get housing in Zone 2/3 in your second and third years anyway.
I have to decide between these 2 unis very soon and most on this thread have said QM hands down as the better university just because of its location (London) and league table position. I would like to throw in a counter argument and see what replies I get in return. After some research, I found that far more law firms went to the Sheffield law fair rather than Queen Mary, that includes big firms and the firms up in the northern areas. Also, while the law schools may be similar in terms of reputation (well according to TSR QM has the slight edge) the university of Sheffield as a whole has a far better rep in the world (ranked top 80 in the world) and in the UK (ranked 18th in the Times)

While Queen Mary has had great mooting performances over the last few years, Sheffield has not done bad either.

These are just a few arguments, I am writing this not to cause any hostility but just to get a counter argument so I can come to a decision in my own mind.

Thanks:yes:

I wouldn't take newspaper leagues to heart. Best thing to do is go to a uni thats good for you, and obviously one thats reputable. You could do far, far worse than QMUL or Sheffield.

Wasn't really expecting anything tbh, just asking . Would you say you would rather have gone to one of those other three because of how central they are, or does it really make no difference at all? Do you stay around mile end to hang out, go for coffee, party, club etc.? Do you travel to more central London often? How often, and what for? Hope these questions aren't too personal, I'm just curious

Tbh Mile End is so close to Central that it hasn't really made a difference. I mean, down the road you've got Brick Lane, Shoreditch, Hoxton etc, all close by. Old Street is just a (24hr) bus ride away and then you've got the 25 which runs to Oxford Street, also 24 hours a day. There are night buses which run from Camden to Whitechapel Station/Aldgate. There are also good pubs nearby QMUL itself, the New Globe for example is pretty damn cheap (£2.50 for a double vodka and Coke) and literally right next door to the campus, and then you've got places like the Victoria which are good for live music. Me and my friends probably go out in Central just as much as an LSE/UCL student would, the transport links are really good here.

Basically we're talking 15 minutes on the Tube to Embankment, it's really not far at all. Also, bear in mind that 45 minutes on the bus is mainly due to traffic and traffic lights, after about 7pm the buses are a lot quicker and your journey time is probably halved. I think you'd also find that after a while the novelty of going into Central London every day does kind of wear off and it's nice to be somewhere a bit quieter - not that Mile End is "dead" by any means but it's not as bustling as the Strand campus of KCL for example, personally I like that but it really depends on what you're after.
