Plenty! I'm also quite shy and found it no problem.

I know you guys are really keen on Lafrowda for the social aspect and it does sound good but, I'm extremely shy and don't like having people around me all the time. How much privacy can you expect to have when living in Lafrowda? Obviously I don't want to be a shut in or be antisocial or anything like that, but I'm the kind of person who sometimes really needs some time to herself and from what I'm reading on these threads it just seems like I might not be able to do that when living with 11 other people in such a lively environment... is that the case or is it alright for those of us who aren't as social as most to get a few hours to just chill out alone for a while?

Eh, I sound like a bit of a loser I know, but... yeah. I get very nervous having people around me 24/7. I'm just delightfully awkward that way

There is a lock on your bedroom door. And when I was in Lafrowda I found that people generally left me alone when my door was shut, as I left it open most of the time when I was in and sat at my desk working etc. Sometimes I'd even fall asleep for a nap on my bed with my door propped open hehe. No one disturbed me. If you want "you" time then lock your door. People will probably just assume you're out anyway.
Oh okay cool, thank you both of you  reckon I'll probably apply for Lafrowda then, that was the main thing that was really concerning me because I get really nervous when lots of people are around. Cheers for all the advice you've given in this thread, by the way, it was really helpful!

heyy dw im like tht too
im very social, but when i get PMS n stuff i need time by myself :P hehe and jus general me time to think about things... but i recon i'd do most of my thinking outside in the garden unless its cold/rainy
laffys setting is AMAZING might not look like much on the outside by where it is is RELE nice, and the bedrooms are act quite nice in comparison to accommodation at st. andys unless ur rich tht is lol
Being in a LDR I stay in my room many nights a week to talk to my g/f all evening, about 4-5 nights a week which leaves just 2-3 for socialising.

But my social life is still fine, maybe it could be a little better but considering the amount I'm away its very good!

There is no oligation to be out and about a lot because it's Lafrowda, you can be around as little as you want. However, there WILL be some people who go clubbing everyday and if you're quiet wave goodbye to that little social group. But it wont be your entire floor, and that isn't a Lafrowda thing. In all halls the divide seems to be those who club everyday vs those who do never/only sometimes.

If you're an only sometimes person like me, the frustration can be that you're in the non-clubbing group, and they NEVER seem to want to go. I'm always having to persuade people to go to a club.

But now I'm just pointlessly rambling away, in summary: you can be a quiet person and at Lafrowda.

Not being into clubbing definitely doesn't harm your social life: I just joined a truckload of societies instead and spent most of my time with them

Oh, and another thing. The St. Germans en-suites are a grade A pain in the arse. 2 guys on my floor have had problems with the hot water being stone cold, not working and the tap handles falling off.

Also its so badly designed if you plan leaving your shower door open to air out the shower, you won't be able to get to that oh-so-important towel rail to get to your nice warm towel. Bad show.

Whereas the heated towel rails in Laffy are positioned perfectly everytime

Another one over here who had problems with the hot water constantly clicking off...just to add to the chorus.

all anybody ever does on here is say how bad St German's is - why is it the most over-subscribed accommodation in Exeter?

Because the people that go for it aren't smart enough to come on TSR and hear what its really like.
That, and its the only self-catered ensuite on campus. And its not very big. So its going to be oversubscribed isn't it.
Reply 51
Because people are stupid and don't understand the value of money.
Reply 52
Amen to that. That should be Exeter's motto.

Its over-subscribed as poorly-informed boys and girls flick through the accommodation booklet, see the words 'double bed and ensuite' and instantly set their heart on it. Most of the time, without even seeing the place.

If you want showers that don't work, less people to socialise with, less money in your pocket, less kitchen worktop space than Lafrowda, constant cold water, cracks along the corner walls of your bedroom, creaky floors, paper-thin walls (yes, and all that entails), a cold room, a breeze coming in from your SHUT window, a hot tap that runs like a trickle, an electric radiator that never works, one (electric) cooker that keeps breaking down oh and the coup de grace, no gas plumbing - then by all means, fill your boots and apply for St. Germans.

By the way, does Lafrowda really have a heated towel rail? I could swear mine wasn't heated.
Hey, I Have exeter as my first choice to study Economics & Finance. And was wondering which of the accommodation's is the best for socialising and meeting loads of nice people. Ive heard stuff that in some halls that the people are really raaas and literally pricks. Which halls are these?
Ive heard that Hollands Hall has a really bad reputation for socialising as everyone in there is literally a dick. is this true?

Choose Lafrowda. End of.
Lafrowda is said to be the worst looking and worst off all accommodations except for its great atmoshpere. Is there another one like lafrowda but better ?

Nowhere is better than Lafrowda.

I don't think the Lafrowda enhanced rooms look too bad from the pictures. Also, I gather Lafrowda's right next to the business school, so less far to walk for lectures etc. That's my thinking anyway, I'll probably be choosing Exeter as my firm for Economics & Politics.
Another one for the Lafrowda band wagon!

I was really unsure about lafrowda as I initially wanted a double bed and an ensuite etc but in the end chose lafrowda enhanced and it was amazing. Looking back now i would just choose simple lafrowda and have more money to spend on food etc. I think when you are sat at you r bedroom at home you think that painted walls and heated towel rails are really important but they really aren't. After about 2 hours you forget the brick walls are even there and as for en suite-ness my room was one step away from the toilet, so it was practically an en-suite.

Lafrowda has a reputation for being the party town which is it but if you fancy a quiet night in you just shut your door and it's gone. it's definately the best halls.

Without a doubt. Everyone loves Lafrowda. Quite simply, because it is the best halls ever built.

I once again opine - choose Lafrowda and win.
