of course not. but it depends what one means by self-improvement.

it's human nature to grow. but those self-help books are BS, so don't know really. :s-smilie:

I don't know, I don't really believe words can motivate me that much.
people aren't rational in what they buy. are you? no one is.
I think it depends on the guides and it depends on the person. No doubt there are some dodgy books out there, that promise you the world and don't deliver, but there are also plenty of genuine ones too. I read alot of self-improvement books/articles and they have helped me.

I think the key factor is whether you act upon the advice given. It's all good and well reading a book and thinking 'that did nothing for me', but unless you're actually prepared to put the recommendations in to practice, how can you expect anything less? You could read all the self-help books in the world but it won't mean a thing unless you actually start trying the stuff out for yourself and start living your life by those principles.
