Personally I'd go for USA, Germany and Japan/South Africa/Australia. I wouldn't want to pick both France and Germany because while they are vastly different in terms of political systems, being so near each other geographically and their involvement in the EU and the Western World, they can be seen as relatively similar. I would go for a non-EU country as the third simply for the sake of variety.
