To current or past drama students; do you think it is vital to have studied drama/ theatre studies at GCSE and/ or A level to be able to study it at Uni.
Has anyone done a drama degree without gcse . a level
Also what types would one have to do in prepraration eg read plays, join a drama group?

I think the benefits of having studied theatre is that you've had a bit of experience and know it's what you want to study further.

Obviously I can't speak on behalf of what individual Universities are looking for, but as long as you have sufficent experience of theatre to prove that you know this is what you want to study, show enthusiasm and passion - you'll be fine! By experience of theatre, show that you have an interest - join societies, go to the theatre, have performance experience. You could audition for the NYT - they offer a lot of opportunity for young actors/writers/technicians.

A lot of schools don't offer Drama at GCSE or A Level and Universities understand this. If however, your school does offer it at GCSE and A Level, you'll need to explain why you chose not to take it.

You were offered a place at Central and you withdrew your application . . . ?

Can I be nosey, and ask why? =)

Ha ha, yeah of course you can - I get asked this a lot.

It was a whole mixture of various reasons... starting with finances and not being able to afford it, to realising I wanted to be closer to home, wanting a more academically-based course to wanting a campus experience.

It's a fantastic school with what I still consider to be an exceptional course... I'm sure if I'd have gone I would have loved it, but I'm pleased I made the decision I did and I'm happy! By not going to Central this year, I've been able to take up other opportunities that I'm grateful for and it's all good!

Just a personal preference type thing - nothing against the course or the drama school!
