Hi
I'm in my final year doing history of art at York. Are you applying for 2010? Assuming you are doing AS this summer, I'd wait and see how you get on before making a decision.

HoA is nowhere near as competitive as English or History. So, if you can get a prediction of BBB, plenty of unis would probably make you an offer (I wouldn't include Oxbridge, UCL, Courtauld or perhaps Edinburgh in that). What you will need is a personal statement that makes a good case for your interest in studying HoA (gallery & museum visit, architecture).

As for your choices, Leeds and Leicester have decent HoA departments. Nottingham is a great uni but I was very unimpressed by the department when I was applying. If you can, visit as many open days as possible this summer. Look out for size of department as this will have a big impact on your module choices. Brighton and Aber strike me as unnecessarily conservative choices. Aim for unis with the best overall reputation that you have a chance of getting into. It really does make a difference when you come to look for a job afterwards.

Also consider location. What sort of city do you want to spend 3 years in? how far from home? there's a world of difference between south London and Aberystwith.

good luck
