M1 - Condemnation of Pakistani Government, Brucetaylor

That this House condemns the actions of Pakistani president Asif Zardari for his government's overt oppression of political freedoms by arresting political activists, banning peaceful protests in the Punjab and Sind regions and threatening to arrest members of the government on charges of sedition.

Regardless of the position of those within and outside of the government, this House supports the rights of the Pakistani people to peacefully protest against its government and rejects any actions by the Pakistani government that attempt to infringe upon these rights.

I would also like to point out the blatant hypocrisy of the Pakistani government in using the very same methods of political oppression which it condemned when used by the previous government.

it allows a bit more discussion to be undertaken rather than just putting, i sign, i agree, [your name] in a edm.

it also allows the house to voice their opinions on the situation as a whole. to be fair i suggested this came to be the first Motion to test the waters and see how it is responded to. it is something which I'm sure most people would agree with however its also an item for discussion, this will eventually end up going to a vote with do you agree with this motion (and the usual responses)

basically gives us a little bit more to do and more work for me which i'm sure you'll agree isn't a bad thing! I need to prove my worth to the house.
