Post your choices here, and if you want to know something about a particular residence, hopefully a current student will be able to help you!
As for me, I'll living in a house with one of my current flatmates, two of her coursemates, and one of those coursemate's flatmate. Four girls, ha, which sounds crazy, but is an improvement on 6 girls + one may-as-well-be-woman-albeit-one-with-a-penis gay guy! Our house is just above Senghennydd Court/Hall, on a road with a few shops and cafes, a bar, and a chippy, about 10 minutes from the main campus and pretty much as close as you can get to town. Can't wait!
Edit - here's the Cardiff Residences guide.
EDIT - FAQ's:
How do I apply?
First, go to this website: https://www.onlineresidences.cardiff...n/register.jsp
You'll need a Student Number, that should have been sent to you along with a leaflet about the various residences. If you don't have one, you'll need to email residoffer@cardiff.ac.uk or phone +44(0)29 2087 4849 to retreive it. Once you've done that, you'll be emailed a validation code, which you can put in on this page along with your login info: http://www.onlineresidences.cardiff.ac.uk/
Then just fill in an application using the form provided.
When will I get my accommodation offer?
When the conditions of your offer have been met and your offer becomes unconditional. That is, once you've got your results. People who already have unconditional offers should be getting their residences offer around about now.
In what order are the residences assigned?
They are processed in batches according to what date you were given an unconditional offer. For A Level students, this could be up to a week before Results Day, but not everyone will be given an unconditional on the same day, depending on circumstance. However, they won't start assigning residences until after results day, for obvious reasons. Your place in the batch is determined by when you sent your residences application off.
I haven't sent off my residences application yet, do I still have a chance of getting in where I want?
Yes, very much so. But you should apply now, or as soon as possible.
What are my chances of getting into _____?
Most people get into their top few choices, if not their first. If you really want to go to a certain residence, make sure to fill in the form with multiple combinations from the same residence (Reduced room/Self-Catered/Part Catered etc.). The only times you'll have problems getting into your top choices is if there's a problem with your results or any other delay in your unconditional offer being given, or if you put Cardiff as your insurance. Even then, don't worry, you'll still get a place, and everywhere is live-able.
Any more questions, just ask

Yeah, it's really decent in my opinion. It's separated out into flats of 8 ensuite bedrooms, with a kitchen that has two cookers (each with four hobs, a grill and an oven, a fridge, a freezer, a sink and a decent amount of work surfaces. Each person has one cupboard for crockery and cooking equipment and there are 7 food cupboards, which means either you just share all the cupboards between yourself or that one person has to shove all their food in their other cupboard. There's a high corner table for eating on, with four stools, plus a bit at the end of the kitchen that has 6 soft chairs and a stack of crappy chairs. The only criticisms I've have are that the beds are much too small and that more people should be able to sit at the table at the same time.
Even though there's only 112 people in the whole place (spread across two separate buildings; your key only gets you into your building, your flat and your room), it's pretty sociable as long as you are proactive in meeting people.
Also, it's only about 5 minutes from the main campus and 15 minutes from town, so it's pretty convenient. Lidl, a sandwich shop and a decent pub are also 5 minutes away, and if you continue on for a bit longer you get into the heart of Cathays, which has a few pubs and cafes, corner shops and a Tesco Express or two dotted about.
Just wondering...
What do most people opt for regarding mixed gender or male/female only accomodation??
Thanks
I'm pretty sure you don't get a choice (unless you go for Aberdare Hall, which is female-only). Some flats might have only one sex in them, but that's just luck of the draw and most are mixed.
EDIT - apparently you do get a choice.

iv just done my application and i was asked as a lifestyle question whether i had a particular preference or not as to whether i wanted all males, or a mixed accomadation.
Ive put taly south as my first and taly north as my 2nd, 3rd and 4th haha (with slightly different stuff involved).
What do you think my chance of getting either taly south or north is? i think id cry if i didnt get it haha
It's pretty high, as long as you meet your offer. If there's a delay in giving you an unconditional offer (for whatever reason), then they won't assign your accommodation until you've got one.
Can anyone tell me what happens next. I have just gone firm on the Cardiff offer. Do they send me an accomodation pack, do i go online and choose that way, do i have to wait for a number? Also how long does it take from going firm to hearing about accomodation. Not where I may have got into but being able to make some choices. Any help/knowledge gratefully rec'd.

You have to wait to be sent your Cardiff number.
And I'm afraid you only get assigned accommodation from results day onwards, but the earlier you apply the better. However, they assign residences primarily in the order that you get given your unconditional (which will be before the official results day, even though it doesn't show up on UCAS until then), with the order you applied being the secondary factor.
I will be based at the Heath Park campus, does anyone know which accomodation is best to stay at?
Definitely Talybont, preferably North or South. I don't think University Halls wouldn't be too bad (not brilliant, mind you), but all the rest are further away.
I'm so fussy and that is why I'm stressing over which halls to stay in!
Was hoping to take the car with me - there's hardly any parking and no one seems to be taking their cars - is it worth maybe leaving the car at home and getting like weekend insurance or something?
Plus I want ensuite (like I said I'm soo fussy) - I wouldn't be able to handle sharing a bathroom - kitchen is fine though -
The only hall that does parking + ensuite that is near Cathays is Gordon Hall and I haven't found any info on it other than what Cardiff said in the brochure - Anyone know what it's like there?
It seems in a really good spot - according to google maps lol - 10 mins walk to Cathays station and about 10 mins to town (I typed in Capitol)
Senghenydd seemed ok but S Court has parking not ensuite and S Halls has ensuite not parking!!!
Aberdare - all girls - seems a bit weird 2bh - I don't plan on becoming a uni wh*re but 50% of the population are guys so I figure u can't pretend they're not there lol! Plus atleast they're not gonna be 'borrowing' your clothes. lol
The Talybont's seem the most modern but they're just too far (from psychology) - I'm looking to do the whole roll-out-of-bed-2-mins-before-lecture thing.
So anyways, after the long rant - how's Gordon Hall?
Oh ye - is the part catered optional in Senghenydd and Gordon? Heard it's pretty crap...
Thanks for any advice u can give x
Gordon Hall's pretty decent, actually. It has decent(ish) sized rooms, and is set out into corridors instead of flats, with shared kitchens. Everyone seems to socialise as a huge group, obviously not all the time, but if you're looking for a night out there seems to be something happening most days.
The meal is a bit hit and miss, sometimes it is fairly good, other days it's not brilliant, but the portions are decent, you get a dessert and a drink, and it's fairly good value (it works out as £2.50 a meal if you go every day). What some people do is cook most days and just pay for the occasional meal (£3.50) when they don't feel like cooking. As a plus, it's a good way to meet people and hang out with your friends.
Have you considered Colum Hall? It's the closest to campus (I'd say 7 minutes to Psychology, versus 15 for Gordon (you have to walk through the Physics department, cross a railway bridge, walk through Senghenydd Court then cross another railway bridge to get to campus, so all this tends to take more time than you think). Plus, it's ensuite and still pretty convenient for town.
Let me tell you this now; the reason no one takes a car is because it's just not needed. You might think it'll come in handy, but Cardiff has everything you need and there's always buses/trains if you want to go further afield. Cardiff is not a car-friendly uni.
