Re: UVM Kosice
Ohhh I see, ok, the annoying thing is the next bus is at 18.30 when my flight gets in at 12.30, maybe I can wander round Budapest if the airport is close to the city or I'll see what time the trains go. I might check out Ibiza, what kind of music do they play, is it any good? I'll look like a bit of a lemon going to a club on my own though haha. I have a whole day to explore Kosice, then I'll do my exam and go check out Budapest because it's a bit bigger and more exciting methinks. I'll be in Kosice on 7th July and probably go to Budapest right after the exam unless I make some friends
-
Re: UVM Kosice
Hey no im afraid the airports like a 25 minute drive on a pretty fast road from the city, and the train to Kosice goes at 6:30pm too so you'd be as well hanging around at the airport! If you do want to look at trains involving budapest, i use this website;
http://www.mav-start.hu/english/index.php might have given you that before actually
Are you looking into budapest vet school? -
Re: UVM Kosice
Ahh that sucks, may get a taxi or something anyway, sitting around an airport all day would drive me mad. Thanks for the info! No I didn't really think about any other European ones to be honest, do you know what it's like at the Budapest one? Probably too late to change my mind now though right? I would prefer to go to a big city uni actually rather than a little town. I can't wait to have a look around
-
Re: UVM Kosice
its probably not too late, but from what ive heard i reeeeeallllllyyyyy wouldnt want to go to budapest. it sounds awful. They have much longer term times, so they get home a lot less. The uni takes in more people than it can manage so the way it works is to kick people out by failing them to cut the year size down. We get quite a few transfers from buda and everyone says its horrible!
As it happens im currently sitting in budapest airport waiting for the bus to kosice. Ive been here 3 and a half hours so only 3 more to go!!!! and kosice isnt really that small, its 250,000 people and it has clubs and pubs and shopping centres etc, id call it a city. -
Re: UVM Kosice
I agree. I haven't heard that many good things about Budapest apart from the city life. The vet school seems to come up a bit short. They really don't seem to care about their students so much. Kosice is smaller but still lovely and we manage to get out on the tiles quite a lot! And there's always weekend trips to Budapest or Vienna if you want more action!
5 exams down, 2 to go! -
Re: UVM Kosice
Have you ever met someone who didn't manage to pass the entrance exams?
Are the exams the same level as A-level?
Which books are best for studying? Do they accept all the applicants even if they don't manage to pass the entrance exams?
Does anyone have any past papers of the entrance exams? -

Havent met anyone that didnt pass the exams no, but then i wouldnt cos they wouldn't have got in
i dont think it really happens that much though.
I think the questions are similar to A level, i wouldnt say its the same syllabus though, but its just bio and chem general stuff, its not too hard, especially the bio.
Unfortunately me and Hannah aren't the best to ask about the entrance exams because grad students dont have to sit them, we just use our degree as entry.
I wouldnt get any books. The uni make their own books for each subject here and i think theyre the best because what they want you to know is in them, whatever you do, just wait a while before you think about buying books, you dont need them yet.
I cant imagine them accepting someone that fails the entrance exam, that would kind of defeat the purpose
but i think youd be allowed to resit.
I have one thing from the entrance exam, but its not a past paper, just example questions. Im not sure where it came from, how old it is or anything, but its better than nothing. PM me your email if you want it...but i may have already sent you it? -
Re: UVM Kosice
Ah ok looks like Kosice's the way to go then! Bookie I'm just revising from my a-level books, I got them cheap on ebay - the ocr ones. I'm scared about the chemistry because it was never my strong point and now it's been 2 years since i did it but there's more bio questions than chem. Are you doing the undergrad route and are you be taking the exams on July 9th? If you are we should meet up so its not so terrifying!

Re: UVM Kosice
hi...im taking the exam for 2010 entry on 9th July and havent booked my flights or anything :s Cass8008, where are you flying from? I think I am going to fly to Bratislava and get the train but does anyone know which station it is because there are quite a few in Bratislava? For the train, do you think it is ok to book once there? There is Bratislava-Vinohrady and Bratislava hl.st. argh..I'd be grateful if anyone could help.
-
Re: UVM KosiceThe station will be Bratislave hl.st. You get a bus straight there from the airport for about 50cents. Literally you walk out of the airport and the busses are right in front of you and you go and hop on one of those. I cant remember the number but just read on the signs. It's easy enough. Definitely just book the train when you get there. The trains are really big and there will always be a seat available.(Original post by 12zoom)

Re: UVM KosiceIts bus number 61 and Hlavna Stanica is the last stop so its pretty obvious. I always buy the 1 hour ticket for 70 cents because im never too sure what else to buy and id rather have the hour than the 30mins. Make sure you stamp the ticket in the little machine as soon as you get on the bus!(Original post by 12zoom)

Re: UVM Kosice
Hi, I am a bit worried because my mum came across a website which said that the vet school in Kosice was not EAEVE approved whereas I thought it was. I then contacted RCVS and was told the following:
''Studying at a non-EAEVE approved school could make it more difficult to get a job, as future employers are more likely to question your credentials. However, EAEVE approval doesn’t have any legal status (unfortunately!), so a veterinary qualification from any EU member state would make you eligible to register with RCVS and hence eligible to practise in the UK''.
Are people there at the moment worried that they wont be able to practise in the UK? I really wanted to come to Kosice but now my parents won't allow me to because of this =( -
Re: UVM KosiceHi, im sure we've been discussing this before actually, but anyway, no its not approved. It was evaluated in 2005...and didnt get it because it didn't have a horse clinic, but a lot has changed since then and now we have a horse clinic and should get approval, but the next inspection isnt until 2014, when im pretty sure they're expecting to get it. I can understand your concern, but it is a really good university. I had my doubts before i came, but now having seen and experienced the amount of learning and practical experience we do i have absolutely no doubt that i will be a good vet afterwards. Lots of students graduate from here every year and get jobs all over the world without any problems. There are many students from here now practicing in the UK and Scandinavia and i havent met a single person who is worried about not getting a job. It also seems to depend on who you speak to at RCVS on what answer you're given! A guy in 2nd year at the moment asked RCVS which european school to go to and was recommended this one...so make what you want out of that...(Original post by 12zoom)

Re: UVM Kosice
Hang on, I just found this on their website, now im confused as to whether we are accredited or not;
On the basis of evaluation by the Education Committee of European Association Establishments for Veterinary Education, the University of Veterinary Medicine in Košice was put on the “EAEVE List of evaluated and recommended veterinary education establishments” and it was stated that the study programmes “General veterinary medicine” and “Food hygiene” comply with the requirements of EU Directive 2005/36/ES (previously Directives 78/1026/EEC and 78/1027/EEC).
Oh well, i dont really care either way! -

Sorry for the mega long post, but this is from

EAEVE/FVE EDUCATION COMMITTEE
List of Visited and Approved Institutions
BACKGROUND
At the EAEVE Annual General Assembly held in Naples in 1998, the membership
agreed unanimously that at the end of the second cycle of visits (about 2010), a list
should be made available classifying each institution in Europe under one of three
categories, namely:
1. Visited institutions found to meet the requirements set out in the EU
Veterinary Training Directives, as interpreted in the "Guidelines,
requirements and main indicators" section of the "Standard Operating
Procedures" document, and
2. Visited institutions failing to meet one or more of the requirements set out in the
Directives (so-called category 1 deficiencies), and
3. Institutions not visited.
As an interim measure, it was also unanimously agreed to draw up immediately a list of
establishments with no category 1 deficiencies, or where these deficiencies have been
rectified. This was to be termed the "positive list". At the plenary meeting of the Advisory
Committee on Veterinary Training in March 1999, this concept was approved.
At the EAEVE General Assembly held at Lisbon in 1999, it was agreed that this list would
be made available on the EAEVE website.
At the EAEVE General Assembly in Vienna in 2000, it was agreed that this list be renamed
"the list of visited and approved institutions".
This list will be periodically updated as and when new institutions qualify for inclusion on the
list.

I lived in dorms for 2 years and out of dorms for 1 - I have to say I much prefer living out of dorms but it all comes down to money and personal preference! And also if you want to live in the city centre!
Hope to see lots of new faces in september
p.s. you could also look at the facebook group UVM Kosice: Free, For Sale, For Rent... and there you can see photos of the flats!
