Wales is fine with me I'm half Welsh! I'm mostly going to be looking in the south of england either east or west and south wales too. It doesn't really feel like I am actually a vet yet. Maybe it will when I get a job!

Awsome, good luck job hunting! did you do the 4 or 6 year course? do you have all the skills needed or will you still be a vet in training for a while? no idea about how much we will actually know after graduating especially in terms of doing surgeries etc. In UK unis i know they have a lecture free year often where you just have clinical training which should then prepare you for things (obv wont know it all). how scary though at the same time as being incredibly awsome.

I would just ring in a week or so. I sent my application in January, and by July I hadnt heard anything, not even if they'd received it - they'd neglected to tell me I had a place. That was my first taste of how things work in slovakia! It doesnt get any better!

Right. I am probably making myself a nusance here but I am completely overwhelmed. There's no way I'm gunna be able to read this thread through it's so long so I'm just gong to have to stick my beak in and ask!

I want to study Vet Med...so 've just discovered you can do this ABROAD IN ENGLISH and be qualifed to work here??- just blew my mind.

Please break this down nice and simple for me.
How do I find out more?
Where can you go to study?
    Is it economically feasable, really?
What kind of faff is involved?
    How do you apply?
And what do you need to get in?

You can find out more about UVM Kosice here or the uni website www.uvm.sk/en
You can study in several different places in Europe in English including Kosice (slovakia), Budapest (Hungary), Brno (Czech Republic), Warsaw (Poland) and also Romania. There might be more but I can't remember them.
It is economically feasible just about, more so if parents can help. It's hard to secure enough bank loans to study here and all fees are paid for by you as you go along with no student loans available.
What kind of faff do you mean? There's travelling faff. Not speaking the language faff. That kind of thing. But it's worth it in my opinion.
You apply to Kosice by sending off the forms that you can find on their website and all the stuff that they ask for.
To get into the 6 year course you need to pass your A-levels. To get into the 4 year course you need to pass a related degree.

When it comes to the dorm rooms. Are some rooms better than others...and is it worth turning up as early as possible to get the best pick?

    Thanks

you just get whatever youre given, theyre all identical pretty much. If you dont like it for whatever reason they'll give you another, there's usually some free.

Thank you SO much. (really!) There's alot to absorb!
What's the advantage of going away to study?
Is it easier than here to get on the course? -Do they expect as high A-level grades as over here? Work Experiance? I can't seem to find it on the website the EXACT requirements.
Does it work out any cheaper/expensive overall do you think, travel and all that too?
So you apply by sending off forms directly to all these places on their websites? I mean, there's no UCAS type application faff?

How on earth could you choose where to go? =/ It's mind boggling.

It was easy for me to choose. Only Kosice has a 4 year graduate course so it was a no brainer. Otherwise i think they are probably all pretty similar. Kosice has a rapidly growing UK contingent so is good in that sense.
There are lots of advantages to going abroad, and disadvantages. To me some advantages were that it is easier to get in than home, cheaper than home and an interesting experience.
It is easier to get on the course. They don't expect straight As but the standards are rising as they are getting more applicants and are therefore able to be picky. They don't have specific requirements other than passing your A-levels and then the entrance exam if you're a school leaver. No work experience requirements but maybe it'll help now it's getting competitive. Aim high in everythinng and it'll help you in the end though.
For me it worked out cheaper than paying graduate fees in the uk (20 grand per year) and I would imagine that it would def work out cheaper than the 9000 for tuition then living costs on top for an undergrad. You would go home less than you would in the UK probably so would have to fund less travel, and if you lived in the south of England and wanted to go to a Scottish uni then it's still flights and lots of money for travel so that doesn't make so much difference except in time.

I am really really really considering this. Quite excited. I'm not too worried about my grades, they're good but to get a vet med place here you really have to be the best of the best with this and that and the whole thing scares the crap out of you. It's ridiculous . Somewhere like Kosice sounds like a good option if they are a bit more relaxed!
To me abroad meant: EXPENSIVE. Seems I was wrong then! The only thing worrying me is sorting all the monies stuff out. I haven't quite grasped the scary world of loans.. and loans and shizzle for studying abroad seems even more scary and complicated. Can you explain how did you did it?

I think we both just borrowed it off our parents

Yeah most people have borrowed off parents as far as I can tell. Some have loans and some have managed to beg and borrow a bit more. Funding it isn't easy but it is cheaper than home if you can find the cash to pay up front.

I borrowed it all from my parents. Tuition fees + rent + living money. Depending on where you live and how much you spend generally it will probably be between 35 and £50000 for 4 years. Maybe a bit more than 35000 since it's 1000 more per year for tuition than when i started. If you can get a job during the holidays you can earn a fair amount since we don't have much EMS and long holidays if you do your exams fast.

    Hi,
Those of you already studying I was just wondering where you normally fly from in England and what you pay for flights cost. How often do you come home/are the terms like they are in England ie September to Christmas with a couple of weeks off and then January to Easter and the Easter to Summer?

    Thanks
