Re: Why are Americans backward socially? Thanks, professor google. maybe you could google "risk of prostate testing" and find out what they were actually talking about rather than ctrl-v cancerresearchuk.org.(Original post by Howard)
That seems a rather cavalier approach to take. In 2008 there were 10,168 deaths in the UK from prostate cancer. Prostate cancer accounts for around 12% of male deaths from cancer in the UK and is the second most common cause of cancer death in men, after lung cancer.
hint; screening for early stage cancers is a highly controversial topic in cancer research. it is far, far more cavalier to just say "we should take every cancer seriously and operate immediately no matter the size or other factors"Last edited by thisismycatch22; 28-10-2010 at 16:49. -
Re: Why are Americans backward socially?Depends what you define as highest office. President could be defined as the highest office in some countries, but the influence lies with the Prime Minister in 98% of European countries.(Original post by Rusty33)
The fact that we elected a race other than white to the highest office, and the UK hasn't, doesn't count? Forgive my ignorace, but how many European countries actually HAVE elected someone other than a white male to their highest office?
Here goes though:

Point taken. How many were non-Caucasian?
The United States has a significant black population who are well established and naturalised citizens. The UK is about 2% black and 4% Asian, often identifing significantly with the foreign country of their origin as oppose to the UK. Same goes for most other European countries, in fact most have even smaller ethnic minority populations.
If anything I think the gender issue shows a bigger gap between the progress of both regions. 50% of the US population is female and there's never been a female president? That's a serious gap.
