Extra Curricula Activities etc VETMED

Hi,

I'm applying for 2006 entry and have a problem!
I don't have hobbies! Well not the sort they are interested in, I go out with my mates, walk my dogs and relax when not working, work-experiencing or school-working!
I'm not asporty person at all. I play pool lol. I swim, but leisurely, not for competitions etc. My sixth form doesn't have many clubs, and those that are around are full of the incredibly sporty Btec type people now. i liev on the outskirts of London, and there aren't very many local things. I'm not musical, and although I would consider a music hobby, I can't afford lessons or an instrument!
Please, someone give me some ideas! what sort of hobbies did you all put down? Were you questioned on them much?
I have a quad bike, and love that... would that help? Also, been involved in school stuff like reading with younger, learning difficulties children.
OMG someone help me I'm driving myself mad here...

Deffo put down your quad-biking (it's something different) and your work with children. All I put down was my membership of a drama society, the fact I volunteer at a welfare benefits advice centre and the usual...'like to travel, socialise with friends, pub-quizzes etc'. They are interested in your ability to communicate with people as well as animals because you will obviously have to deal with clients. whatever you do DO NOT make stuff up...I know some-one who put she had done karate for years (she had only done a few lessons) and one of her RVC interviewers was a black belt and really probed her about it. They told her some-one who could lie so easily was not appropriate vet material and rejected her on the spot!! They may not ask you anything at all about what you put but you may just be unlucky enough to have an expert in that field who wants to spend the whole interview talking in depth about it.

I would definitly try and join a club or two, or maybe take part in some competitions.
They like to see that you don't spend all your time studying to get the grades, but can also do other things at the same time.
Have you not done any maths competitions at school like Maths Challenge or Mathematiques sans Frontiers? You have probabaly done more than you realise, you just forget it all when it comes to putting it down on paper.
I didn't write too much on this in my personal statemnt, just a small section and mentioned a few hobbies - scuba-diving, model a/c flying etc. Also mention any achievements in such activities.
Anything different is good as they may soend more time asking you about it than probing you on veterinary issues :p:

Basically they want to see that you are a well-rounded person - it doesnt matter if you're not musical or sporty, you can just put things down like the socialising with friends, the quad bike, work with kids etc its all fine! just make sure you do enough to be able to write down and talk about your activities for a bit.
