Default Accommodation?

Which is the best accommodation at Portsmouth? Is one set better value than the other? Is it hard to study and get to sleep because the accommodation is right in the middle of the city and so might be noisy? Also is it hard to study when there are so many shops and clubs to distract you? I don't want to live in the Langstone accommodation though as I hate getting up in the mornings so would like to be close to my lectures.

I find it very difficult to make decisions! Any advice is much appreciated, thanks.

go for either james watson, harry law, bateson or trafalger!! they are al about 2-3 minute walk away from lectures, and yes you are in the middle of clubs and everything, but if u dnt enjoy ur first year, you will regret it, cos ur first year results do not go towards your degree!! Make sure you just have a good time and make loads of friends, cos the 2nd year is where it gets hard and important!!

i'd certainly say if u like your sleep lang stone is your best best for sleeping.
burrel is not so nice (or so i am told but residents), Rees is nice but not much of a kitchen.
Harry Law (Where I live), Bateson and James watson are all by the bars and clubs (on guildhall walk) and yes it does get noisy on sumnights (mostly throughout freshers fortnight, and on special nights like st paddy's etc). James watsons probably the nicest halls that i visited and has it's own security team (well a doorman/bouncer at least).

it's not that hard to study (unless you're nocturnal like me and study at 3am :P) round here as long as you apply yourself to your work so it's based on your own will power i think :P it's lovely walk to gunwharf from here and into southsea but of a walk to the seaside

i'd reccomend harry law or james watson for 1st years - clsoe to transport links (except ferries- again abit of a walk) and close to the pubs and in between spar and co-op and ASDA isn;t that far away either

James Watson, Trafalgar, Margaret Rule or Harry Law. They're all the Guildhall halls with ensuites. Whatever anybody says, I really don't think there's much difference between them all and you'll probably have a fantastic time wherever you end up.

As for application, I seem to remember that Portsmouth sent their application forms out about late April/May time perhaps? Anyway, they send you a small pack with information about all the halls in it and you list an order of preference. Then a few weeks later you get a letter back confirming your halls and room number and if you want to take the place you just go online and pay a deposit which I think was £200.

ok here it goes:

james watson is most popular and it's the closest to town...down fall is...no hot water...ever lol

ree's/burell is dirty lol

harry law is in center too but it's not too nice i personally think...

trafalgar is lovely and in center of town but is exspensive...

margret hall is the nicest and still in town...

lagnstone is really good...i lived there in QEQM...it's quite, scenary is lovely and you get to explore more of portsmouth. its a great little community! i'm really glad i lived in langstone...

ps...self contained are much better...it's a bit crazy in corridor and it's noisey and you don't get to personalise with people as you would in a flat..

Boilers have been breaking down recently. Blocks A and N often had no hot water, but being in D I was fine. AFAIK it's all been fixed now so don't make a decision based on this!
