Default Depressants?

Hey there, don't really want to get into why but, I've been depressed for about 2 years now and I can't seem to get out of it. I've been to a two councilors/psychiatrists and I had got myself a gf (not anymore) and all these other things that people suggested but I still can't seem to shake this depression.

I wake up everyday hoping my life was a dream and that I wake up to be something different. Even when I was out with my gf, who I loved, having an amazing time, I still felt depressed, just thinking that I may just end it any day.

If I were to get anti-depressants would they help? I've tried everything else and I still just feel like ****, how hard is it to get anti-depressants from the doctors and how effective would they be? Also are there any side effects?

it depends on what your GP thinks. If there is a specific reason as to why you've been feeling depressed, they could put you onto tablets to help you cope but the reason won't be treated.

Have you thought about counselling????

Anti-depressants tend to be a bit.. clumsy. But if you've tried other routes, what do you have to lose? Yes, they can have a wide range of side effects which tend to differ from person to person, but are most noted during the early stages of taking them.

I'd definetly speak with your GP/Psych about it and see what they think.

GP's are quite generous with the pills, I find... should you decide you need them, they'll probably give them to you without any problems. As Jingaling said, they can be helpful at dealing with the symptoms of depression but if there's a root cause that needs fixing then obviously they're not the ideal solution. But sometimes (often?) the root cause is a chemical imbalance so the tablets can sometimes cure you.

I went to my GP and got them prescribed but what 'won them over' more than anything was the fact I'd mentioned I had been contemplating getting anti-depressants online and had been doing some research as to which could be best for me. I genuinely was extremely down at the time, still am a bit bogged down. The GP will probably recommend a talking therapy route, something to go alongside the medication. He/she should be doing this sort of recommendation anyway.
