From what I gather, only the person sending the erroneous message is infected. I'm going to actually do a bit of research into it now.

Ah, cheers Vlad :h:

Hmm, every so often on my MSN, a old inactive person pops up with some thing or other about weight loss. No idea if am infected with this or them.
AV doesn't show anything.

People, just be careful, watch what you download and avoid dodgy porn sites.

If you have automatic updates installed, it should have already been patched. If you're concerned, visit http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/

Have you tried booting your PC in safe mode, then running a virus scan?

Tap F8 repeatedly when you turn your PC on, and select "Safe Mode" when given the option.

Can I ask what Safe Mode is? :o:

It's a diagnostic mode of Windows that literally just loads the basic components of the operating system to allow you to fix problems that you might have caused in the normal Windows mode. It also has the benefit of not starting any processes like viruses. If a virus is running, it can defend itself against deletion. In Safe Mode, the virus isn't automatically run on startup, so it can't defend itself and gets deleted.
anyone who clicks on the sun website will get the virus :s-smilie:

Guys April Fools!

Fairly well done but could be better I guess.
Will your PC be Hijacked on April 1?

No, I'm not using Windows. This virus is designed for Windows.

On the other hand, I feel sorry for anyone who gets hit by the virus next week. Back up your stuff now, just in case?
I'm sceptical.

Yep
[EDIT] Remember to press F8 just before the Windows loading screen comes up. I tend to just mash F8 repeatedly until the option screen comes up. Select Safe Mode and press enter. Everything might look a bit huge on screen, but put up with it, it'll be back to normal after you restart

Is this anything serious to be worried about though?

Our school's network was took down by the Conficker virus last week.
