The clue's in the question... they're 18-electron species, so they're coordinatively saturated - something has to dissociate first.

Ooh, just realised that those have NO as a +3e donor - i.e. linear. You could consider a rapid pre-equilibrium between the linear and bent nitrosyls, with the bent as a +1e donor, leaving a coordinatively unsaturated complex.
